Why Isn't 937k-rock doing as well as dve and the X?

I am just wondering cause i think k-rock beats both of them combined.

K-Rock has less listeners.

Your subjective preference matters not at all. The listeners disagree with you.

It's all about the music, kid.

More people like the music selection that they play on WDVE or the X than like the music they play on K-Rock. It's that simple.

You may think that, but you've got a Johnny-come-lately (K-Rock) trying to compete with an established top-rated rock and roll station bearing a 37-year heritage, and another station that's fast becoming an institution in its own right with its modern rock format. There's still a very bad taste in people's mouths about the old B-94 getting killed off. It would take much more marketing and promotion to lure listeners away from either of those two stations, and it could take years.

I'd Rather listen to 937k-rock than 1059thex cause they don't play metal,Hair bands And Classic rock. DVE plays mostly Classic rock than new rock. And i think it sucks music playlists are heck of alot better on k-rock than those 2 stations combined. Now if DVE would play a new song then an old song and then a new song and so on then i might consider listening to dve.

You're also in a market that's of an older demographic. This is just ONE reason why a new rock format will not do well in this market. It will probably do better in time, but I don't see it managing a very competitive share now or in the near future.

I agree with KenHawk. We definitely have older demongraphics in Pittsburgh compared to other cities. I can't see K ROCK ever beating DVE in the ratings. DVE has remained #1 or at worst #2 in the ratings on a consistent basis, because DVE has a successful morning show, a fantastic playlist and loyal listeners throughout the day.

In my opinino, If K ROCK is still around after 2007, I will be very surprised.

Drunks listen to DVE. A fantastic playlist lol...

K-Rock will still be around after 2007.

Drunks listen to DVE. A fantastic playlist lol...

Yeah, that's a way to get professionals on this board taking you seriously.

Face it, kid...K-Rock may be your favorite station, but it isn't most other people's. That's reality.

Like I told you, it's all about the music.

Son, when you ask an honest question on this board, you'll get an honest answer. If you can't handle that, then don't come here.

Honest answer lol The people don't listen cause they don't know about 937k-rock. I want to understand why dve is #1 and theX is up with star1007 but Music wise K-rock blows them away.

Because more people want to hear DVE and The X. Fewer people want to hear K-Rock.

Further inquiry should be made with the listeners. Perhaps a survey or study.

but Music wise K-rock blows them away.

Go to yes.com and download the playlists for all three stations. Look at them side-by-side. Then, instead of just considering what music you personally like, consider what the average Pittsburgh rock fan likes best. You'll find that WDVE's list matches most closely what the average Pittsburgh rock fan likes, the X comes in second, and K-Rock comes in third.

Don't feel bad just because your musical taste isn't the same as most people's. There's nothing wrong with liking something that's different from what most people like. Just don't assume that because you like it, that means it's automatically what everyone should like.

"The people don't listen cause they don't know about 937k-rock."

There could be a small kernal of truth there. I know I wouldn't know what to expect to hear on K-Rock if I didn't check out yes.com. I imagine that there are some people who might really enjoy what K-Rock plays, but they're not about to tune in 93.7 for no reason. If the people who run K-Rock don't think that advertising to tell potential listeners why the listeners should tune in 93.7 is worth doing, they shouldn't be surprised when other businesses don't think advertising on K-Rock is worth doing, either.

That's right, kid. The honest answer is what I've just stated...K-Rock is in a very conservative market that's resistant to change. As I stated, there's still lots of unhappy people that miss B-94. Though their ratings sagged, they still at least had a share that was a far cry better than what they have now. Remember when 105.9 the X first came on the air, they played all new music. Then they started including the cuts from Modern Rock's halcyon days in the 80's. Why? Because this market isn't as progressive as Detroit, New York, LA, or Chicago. You do what you must to survive, and that doesn't include playing all new rock. DVE learned that a LOOOONNNGGG time ago.

But i did try to compare the stations on yes.com i like k-rocks better then 1059thex but k-rock is my favorite. And yes i do remember thex played new stuff i remember when it was the force. But i would rather here old and new stuff its like bobfm and proved people wrong k-rock has Metal,Hairbands,New stuff,Old stuff and better comedy segments. I don't want to here masterbastion(sp) Or drunks doing crap.

What, you don't like masturbation on the air? :D Neither do I...there's a classier way to do radio, I know. But one thing hampers its growth, and that is, it's being run as a throwaway right now. I would like to see a live, local morning show with the ability to take on WDVE. That in and of itself will be a challenge, because DVE has been king of the hill for many, many years, and a reason for that is the strength in that morning show. You would also have to have the commitment of management not to bail on it after a year. I would say get some veteran Pittsburgh talent in there who knows what they're doing and let them have a go of it.
