Why isn't NBC using Keith Olbermann at the Olympics?

He has an extensive sports background.

Is he being punished by NBC- Universal ?

Your thoughts please.

KO seems to be in his element doing detailed sports rather than the puffery commonly seen on Olympic coverage. He is great with stats and comparison of competitors in established games. I doubt he'd be thrilled doing psuedo-sports like halfpipe, snowboardcross and snoozers like cross-country and biathlon.

Hmmm......Could it be that he still has his nightly show on MSNBC which just happens to come on at the same time AS THE PRIME TIME coverage??

Seems to make sense to me.....

Cheers :D

To expand on that, his MSNBC show tends to lead his network in ratings. Perhaps he is more valuable there at this point.

He was set to anchor some coverage of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, but decided to stay in New York at MSNBC due to world events at the time.

Yet his ratings have been dropping as of late. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if curling coverage on MSNBC's sister cable network are getting better ratings than "Countdown."

There are certain factions that want to read the eulogy before the body is dead. Let's say that some people's fantasies come true and Countdown is axed. Do you think MSNBC would fill the space between Hardball and Rachel Maddow with conservative talk? Besides, they have Colbert and he wears glasses

because he's an annoying Pompus smart alec snot, other that that, he would be a great Broom Boy for the Curlers.

The Olympics as usually are a snoozefest until a scandal(1936, 1976, 1980, 1984, 2002), bombing(1996), or massacre(1972) occurs

When the Soviet Union was a viable world power, the Olympics had this aura of a big showdown between the USA and USSR. That could be very dramatic and like an action movie with sequals. That is missing from the Olympics. It's hard for the media to set up certain Middle Eastern countries as serious villians when their athletes have to play in 'modesty"outfits that impede performance. Nobody can replace the USSR as an opponent. They were unlike "us" enough to be scary but enough like "us" that we could take them very seriously. They did not have a culture Americans would see as unfathomable.

Ratings? Keith Olbermann? He's never come close to beating O'Reilly.

NBC decided to keep their in house Socialist away from the Olympics thisnyear. Smart move.

Snoozefest is a lightweight description. Yesterday I watched a 1950's version of 'Robin Hood' rather than the dull and lifeless Olympics.

The only way you learn about the acident in the middle of the street is by interviewing everybody on each of the corners at that intersection. If you are only going to listen to those on one or two corners, you will not learn anything about the accident, except from those angles. Especially if they were involved or familiar with one of the occupants.

THAT is "Flat-Earth thinking!

You spoke as the guy who said he got rid of TV years ago because of all the trash that's on.

If the story sounds suspicious, ask someone on the other side of the argument. Maybe you were listening to the wrong person after all.

"He said, she said" can have its value.

You left out the Winter Olympics year of 1994. To quote Nancy Kerrigan, "whyyyyy?"

That was more of a "battle of the brats".
It belonged on the cover of "Teen" magazine.

We see enough of that psychotic idiot on MSNBC. I don't watch Sunday evening NFL because that idiot is on it!

He doesn't count. The only reason he is on NBC's parole is to "shelve" him from appearing on another network.
