Why Izzit.....

Getting back to the original question......I wonder why KTVK runs first run Jeopardy on 3.1 and also older syndicated shows of Jeopardy on 3.1 also but at different times. I would think they'd put the older versions on a subnet instead of the garbage out there now. And since both 3 and 5 are Meredith stations they could even run the older versions on 5.x.

Just wondering if this is common across the nation or unique to Phoenix.
The older syndicated shows air as part of "Daytime Jeopardy" which appears to offered in many markets, although it doesn't always air during the daytime. In NYC Daytime Jeopardy airs on WABC at 2AM. You can lookup when it airs in each market on the Jeopardy website Watch | Jeopardy.com

There are also some markets where the first run Jeopardy and the syndicated Daytime Jeopardy air on different channels owned by the same company.

I know one of the folks who created one of the first 'diginets' Me TV. They started MeTV, because their company had a bunch of LPTV's around the country to program, and he discovered the full runs of many of those old programs were literally pennies on the dollar when the original copyrights ran out.

After a couple years of fairly successful runs on the LPTV's the station group was sold, and he made MeTV available for stations. It's been shown that many of these shows have a new life with the nostalgia-factor-older-crowd, which is fine for some advertisers selling; walk-in tubs, stair elevators, walkers, canes, life insurance, gutters, etc., but not enough interest, let alone potential revenue to run them on the main channel.

Demographics reasons and also deals for shows to certain venues in this case streaming. Certain shows that CBS owns directly via CBS Television distribution goes to Paramount+, Universal and MCA Pictures goes to NBC owned Peacock app and shows with the 20th Century Television, ABC Studios, Disney Television and Touchstone goes to Disney+ and Hulu apps. Classic TV in some cases have a deal with the app in question if they own it directly.

Sony, MGM and Lionsgate I don't know for now where their shows go to given that they have their shows sign for broadcast rights in various places.
Fremantle has shows that air here in the USA but that varies on the venues Fremantle want Specific shows to air on.

Then, there's Fremantle's rather dreadful "Buzzr" diginet where 35 to 50 year old product such as Password, Match Game, To Tell The Truth gets to see the light of day. Not quite the equivalent of dollar-a-holler AM radio programming, but it's close.
