And not a lady of the night working off broadway. No one would pay to have sex with her.

Really, now, you in S.A. should feel honored to have someone in the paper writing about radio. Austin has a columnist who has few clues and runs once a month. Dallas Morning News hasn't had anyone since Al Brumley died, and Fort Worth Star Telegram columnist Philpott is reassigned.
Jeannie can be mean sometimes, and she often garbles her facts, but at least she spells the names right. And in this business, that's the best you can hope for.

Valid point - at least SA does have someone supposedly writing about radio. I guess when she gets around to it.
I grew up in Tampa where, Walt Belcher kept readers abreast of the radio market there - almost daily as I recall. If a new DJ was hired at a station, Belcher had the details. If there was a flip, he had the entire story. I guess that sort of spoiled me.
What pisses me about Jakles coverage, or lack thereof, is that when she does bother to mention radio, she uses the same tired words to discuss people. I think she always refers to Lisle & Hahn and radio badboys or something.
People can argue that San Antonio has a lackluster radio market (which I don't necessarily agree with) but a motivated columnist could have a never ending supply of stories to write about. I mean, face it - what station is not going to open thier doors to someone willing to write about them? Even bad media about a station is enough to get someone to consider listening.
Jakle blows, and I don't mean just on Broadway or Austin Hiway. (By the way, that was rude of me to defame her in such away and I apologize in advance.) She has been putting as little effort as possible, but only enough so that the Express-News will approve her frequent trips to LA and Hollywood so she can interview TV and Movie stars.
It is time the Express-news (or Jakle herself) hire some motivated radio columnist who would be willing to take 15 minutes and call around to find something worth writing about. Oh, and maybe she should consider listening to the radio.

I know I have rambled on about her, but seriously, she is terrible. A few years ago when Drex left SA for Chicago, I wanted to get the "real" story on how it was, so I corresponded with Robert Feder, the brilliant radio writer for the Chicago paper. He shared a very similiar view to Jakle's lack of motivation in getting the story right, or even covering it beyond a press release.

/rant off!

I believe you owe Austin Highway an apology.

A few years ago when UPN left 35 KRRT she completely missed the fact that UPN could be recieved on CH 52 and 25. Both were translators for KTRG Ch 10 from Del Rio. I kept pointing this out but she refused to understand that a Del Rio station could be seen in this market. I told her to pull her head out of time warners pocket, unplug the cable and hook up the antenna to see what was actually out there. That's when she stopped answering my emails.

It's her lack of depth that really grates on me. She isn't objective and PLAYS FAVORITES. We really need someone in there that is going to care about the market and the people it serves.

Do you remember the writer who did the "Radio Plug" in the TV guide 10-15 years ago? I think his name was Wiley Alexander. I always thought he was pretty good. Anybody know what happened to him?

He did a great job and in fact, it was a total travisty that Jeanne was his boss!

Unfortunately, I believe Mr. Alexander passed away several years ago. I hope I am incorrect, but I do believe that is the case.

I remember hearing the same thing. IIRC he was already retired when he was writing for the Express-News. It was kind of a labor of love for him I think. He also seemed to fit all formats. His interviews were all in depth, accurate and entertaining whether he was interviewing Lisle and Hahn or Randy and Julie.

Wiley really cared and it's too bad they didn't replace him. They should get Chris Quinn to write about radio. I think he would be good at looking into the deep and dark areas and still find some humor in it as well.

Of course that means that EN would actually have to serve their readers. That goes against their business model. Too much overhead.

That's the best thing I've ever seen!!!
