Why KNX is tanking

This afternoon at 4:30 KNX started in on the news about Hurricane Katrina and the disaster in New Orleans.

Then at 4:34 "More on the huricane and the conditons in New Orleans right after 'What's for Dinner with Melinda Lee'."

Goodbye KNX....

I think KNX died the night they did the "there are ghosts in Columbia Square" story with a straight face.

Edward R. Murrow was doing 78s. But more impoertantly, their credibility went further down, faster than even their sinking ratings.

If they thought people were going to put up with stuff like this, are you sure they didn't actually say, "Morons, the huricane and the conditons in New Orleans right after 'What's for Dinner with Melinda Lee'."? ;)

I really hate the new sounders and stingers....

They've really gone wimpy.

KCBS still seems to be using their heritage sounders and stingers.

It's all so simple. KCBS in San Francisco has different management and a different programmer. It seems that the changes that were made at KNX were just for the sake of changing things. To show the suits that they didn't hire a bozo. Well guess what?

You know you can't change the times that you do sports and traffic and expect people to tune in to the new times when they were so used to when they played for all those years. It just upsets them.

As for those new beds, today I heard a KNX anchor talking over one and she was being drowned out by it. The bed was too shrill for her voice to be heard and to top it off they're in digital studios now and anyone who has worked digital knows that you have to really watch your mix. You can pot down music and it will still sound louder than it did on an amalog mixer and bury your voice.

Times change, and sometimes not for the better...

Says the guy who posted a racist thread, then denied it even as the regulars confirmed it.

There are people throughout the industry who are convinced that David Hall is a programming genius. Maybe at a talk station...

KNX built and maintained a strong reputation on being All-News. Got that, David? All-News.

George Nicolau must either be laughing...or crying.

Not Phil Hendrie (grin)...

Crying. Definitely crying. Can you imagine seeing something you'd put more than 30 years of your life into, built into a premiere enterprise, a respected media outlet, dismantled in a time shorter than it takes to get a CP from the Commission?

For shame, Infinity.

The best example....on a weekend when EVERYONE's minds was on New Orleans, DGH ran Melinda and Levy as usual.

Now lets see if DGH panicks and truly tanks the station.

KNX is going to become a talk station if David G. Hall lasts. And at this point, I don't see why he won't.

Los Angeles can't support two full time news outlets anyway. The listening landscape has changed over the years. This will be a good move to challenge KFI.
San Francisco and Chicago have lost their Infinity/CBS/Westinghouse/Viacom second news outlets over the years, it is time for the same to happen in L.A..

And ever since I got XM in my new car, I could care less about listening to KNX or KFWB. Fox News Channel audio works just fine for me.
