I was just listening to MC's Rock channel, I have to admit it sounds fantastic, I have XM and my brother has Sirius and their Rock channels are not much different or better. MC has a good Rock channel for a cable music outlet. Now, why can't this format be put on one of the many struggeling urban outlets on the Philly dial. Just play the style/type Rock music MC plays, without much talk or jargon. I know this format would soar to the top 5 in just a few books. So why doesn't anyone do it...

I think you answered your own question. The rock audience is gone. They went to XM, Sirius, etc. I do not think they are coming back. Unlike the urban/hip hop/rap and Pop listeners, the rock fan.. from AAA to Active is a dedicated audience. They know what they like. They are also willing to pay for what they like The moment rock left the dial, they shifted to other options. MMR, in its current state, is the catchall for people who are generally indifferent about rock music and not willing to spend $12.95/ per month

For free rock streams people tune internet stations like http://www.buzzrock.2ya.com. Not regular radio.

What you said makes alot of sense and I totally agree, what bothers me is, why does the Rock fan have to pay for the music they love. Its so easy for the urban lover to tune into a variety of stations playing music all the time on the Philly dial. The Rock fan has part-time soon to be no-time YSP and flat MMR. Its funny YSP is adding many Alternative bands as Oasis, Bosstones, Blink, Hoobastank and others as they dwindle down on the music. They are sounding so much better "music wise" then they ever did, except for the increasing vulgarity on the Couzin Ed show, it seems between the music the bits are becoming almost X-rated, it is in tune with the general feel of the station now. A few years back the jocks were good and the language was OK, for young people to listen to, not anymore.

If Alternative Radio were to come back to Philadelphia, and started off sounding like Y100 (Blink, Hoobastank, Nickleback, Staind), then I would be perfectly fine with paying $12.95 for XM. (Terrestrial rock radio cannot beat Ethel, Lucy, Unsigned and XMU.)

Satellite and Internet! These are the new mediums of broadcasting. Get used to it. Alternative Rock belongs on the alternate mediums. It fits. Why take a step backwards to terrestrial?

Been there, done that.

ya sorry. just felt like doing that.

97.5/106.9/107.5

YSP is always plugging their internet stream for displaced listeners who miss the music full time. Why doesn't the talk portion go to the internet or their HD setup and leave the music on the regular 94.1 signal, instead of visa versa, then they can get as vulgar as they choose to. It will be interesting if the changes at 97.5-107.5 and in the future 106.9 will cause an Active/Alternative format to be fired into the Philly market on one of these signals. Should be interesting.

OK... not to feed the fire or anything, but say Nassau IS planning something dual on 97.5 and 107.5... what would the overlapping coverage map look like? (especially with 97.5 moving to Philly soon)<P ID="signature">______________
