Why not oldies?

There are many AM stations in Indy that are not doing well. OK, most people under 45 don't
use AM.

So, why not try 50's and 60's oldies on one of them. Looks like an easy 3 to a 5 in ratings to me.

The 50's and 60's appeals to 45+, and with music liscensing the way it is today I don't see this format as being very profitable.

I would like to see some of the news/talk am's play oldies on the weekends like WABC does on Sat. nights. I was scanning the am dial yesterday and when I tuned to WIBC they had a vet. show on. (ZZZZ). Now they being a historic station I thought, man what if they had an oldies show that featured some of the old jingles and airchecks with Reb Porter or some other well knowen dj. Even the night before the Indy 500 I thought that they could incorperate clips of past races with oldies. Will never happen.

As much as I applaud this idea as a listener, 1530 WSAI (calls at the time) in Cincinnati tried this with 50KW/24-7 and had great jingles and legendary Cincy jocks. They did it with gusto & pulled a 2 share. Expecting anything equal to or more than that with the possible signals in Indy is, sadly, a pipe dream. But if they do it, I would listen...at least during the day when I could hear it. WDJO in Cincy is now doing the same thing with 5KW days/990W nights on 1160 & pulling a 1 share at times with an almost worthless night signal. It depends largely on the sales staff...if they understand & have passion for the product, it probably could make a buck. If this happens in Indy, I hope it's done by the right team who know more than how to hook up a satellite dish...
