Why not Phoenix????

Just like what happened today in Pittsburgh, CBS radio dumped Fm Talk for the old B 94. So when they flipped Free FM here in Phoenix, why didn't they bring back The Zone???? hmmmmm

I couldn't say it better myself. CBS radio made a horrible decision to bring another hip hop station to the valley. ALT is what is needed!!!

I think it was a pretty smart move.

Doing this they are aiming at both Kiss and Power's numbers. Kiss for the playlist, Power for the signal and somewhat the playlist. (Admit it, South Phoenix is dead when it comes to Power's weak watts.)

I don't see the point in bringing back Zone. Phoenix already has both an alternative rock and an active rock station that don't do all that hot, so I don't see how they could support another one. B94 came back because (I'd say, anyway) it could be possible for it to work.

However I DO think it would be smarter to organize your station before launching it. (Jamz has only finally got their staff.)

There was a reason that The Zone flipped to talk...

Sorry, but I'm not sure what station you're referring to as "Alternative Rock".

THere is already Alternative here..........103.9 KEDJ the Edge. & doesn't KDKB play alternative also.........

so why would you need for CBS for flip 101.5 back to alternative??

Simple answer. WBZZ a 15 year market legend/heritage station in P'Burgh. Only rivaled by KDKA and WDVE.

KZON ?? You gotta be kidding me. Marginal @ best.

Phoenix heritage stations ?

KZZP (the real one). KNIX, KUPD and KTAR (the real one).

Heritage is only as good as your last couple of books. If you are out of format even a few years, the old format has no heritage... especially in PHX where most people are from somewhere else and the talent is mostly transitory.

And, you are not BT, either.

Which was proven here when Variety 104.7 morphed back into KZZP.

I think most of KZON's old numbers were Howard Stern driven. There was no reason not to take a fresh approach.

Oops. I said Fresh.

Oh....sooo not true. Look at CBS-FM. WKTU meant something when it reappeared in the 90's.
The B-94 Pittsburgh heritage will matter...especially with local advertising.

Agreed though that KZON is not that heritage laden. I like most of BT's list (maybe with the addition of KDKB)
