Why oh why?

I posted this more than a week ago, but never really got a response: For the second straight game... WSKO broadcast the Patriots on both 99.7 and 790... while the Yankees were in action, a game and a half out of first and the wild card, two weeks left in the season. Can someone tell me why a station with two frequencies would devote both to the same game? I'm not a Yankees fan, just a common sense fan, and I don't get it.

Because Patriots contract may stipulate it, I guess. And if WSKO
didn't follow the rules of said contract, the Patriots would be free
to take the games elsewhere. I'm guessing that's the reason.

I have only limited experience with network programming, but I can't imagine this would be a stipulation of the contract. 99.7 is not a simulcast of 790... it's a completely separate station. It'd be like The Pats telling Citadel they had to broadcast the game on WPRO as well.

It makes sense for 99.7FM to carry the Patriots, since the Pats are on a lot of FM stations anyway (albeit, most of them rock stations). The one thing I don't like is that 99.7 doesn't turn the stereo on, especially when the games are broadcast in stereo.

To kind of answer the question, RI is not a primary market for the Yankees, and more people are likely to want to listen to the Patriots over the Yankees. Since the Yankees games are on 99.7 usually, it may not be beneficial to put them on 790AM for one game...therefore, you're shut out. Hope you can get 880 WCBS...
