Why People Leave Buffalo for Charlotte

WFAE is doing a series on why people leave Buffalo for Charlotte. I find it interesting since I'm from Buffalo but came here after living in South Florida. You can find the reports but written and audio on WFAE.org .

Let me add that personally I know more people in Buffalo who never strayed very far from the street they grew up on! Very little changes there except the population is shinking due to lack of jobs and high property taxes.

Then there's not much point in them coming to Charlotte- we also have no jobs and high taxes.

The property taxes are a third of what they pay in Western New York state. The job situation there has been awful since the steel mills closed in the mid '70's. With the higher energy costs the heating bills have been awful. I think we have it good here in comparison. Buffalo has one thing going for it, lots of friendly, helpful people.

I would think it's for all the great Hispanic radio stations with more to come! ;D

I agree. Charlotte radio tends to be more for younger people. Oldies and Jazz formats don't or will not exist anymore in charlotte.

It's that way everywhere. Radio continues to ignore the people who supported it for many years while they chase the generation that grew up on music videos.

Oldies had a good run, what we refer to as Standards did too. The new generations are pushing this music out with a vengeance. Such is life!

HHhhmmmm, lemme see.... Buffalo. Charolette. Buffalo... Charolette. Can't imagine. Better get Rick Romero on the job, right after he is finished reporting on the shocking news that dogs like meat.

A whole series you say ;D You have GOT to be kidding! And what the hell is a "WFAE"? Oh yeah, a welfare station. A brilliant example of your tax dollars at work. Next up: A scorching WFAE expose on golfers.... do golfers fudge their scores, tune in for this gripping and compelling series of important reports. At least they'll distract you from the couple hundred million in tax dollars the WFAE's are sucking up at the trough

"Welfare station"?

"Your tax dollars at work"?

Sorry to say that the facts don't seem to be on your side here, Empty One.

Unless WFAE is lying about where it gets its funding, that chart sure seems to show that 90% comes from a combination of individual memberships and corporate underwriting, just 6% from CPB (funded in part by the federal government), and 4% from "miscellaneous," which still doesn't seem to equate to hundreds of millions of tax dollars, especially on a total annual budget that doesn't even crack four million dollars:

Sorry to let reality intrude here.

Scott, glad to see your post here. WFAE is a really fine station. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Standards is still here. And it's GOOD. Mix 106 never sounded this good except possibly when it was still just on 1480. WAVO 1150 on the south end of Charlotte during the day, WEGO 1410 on the north end of Charlotte during the day, WOLS-HD-3, and 1150wavo.com streaming.
