Why so many pirates in Houston?

I do not claim to be Yoda, Adolf Zukor, Louis Mayer, Carl Laemmle, Allen Koenigsberg, a Genius nor God. I am merely recently retired fellow that has an interest and desire to grasp the concept of, on, about The Sociology of Broadcast Music via Radio. And, I thank Frank for his patience and informative answers to my suppositions and the rest of you guys, too! Thanks. I am certain Mel Brooks could and should write a film feature script out of all of this hi-jinks presented here-to-fore. I do get a chuckle…..really I do….<grins>.

The definition of sociology is "the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society."

Music is a product of human endeavor, but it has no sociology of its own as it is inorganic.

What I think you mean, in simpler terms, is the dynamic of the selection and programming of music on the radio.

And at the same time, I want to ask if English is your second language?

Where did these 3 to 5 trolls come from it is like they just fell out of the sky this thread went way off topic after 3 or 4 replys

Troglodytari non carboundum.

Perhaps you mean: "Illegitimi non carborundum" in other words "Don't Let the Bastards Grind You Down."
The British army intelligence adopted the phrase by US Army general "Vinegar" Joe Stillwell.

Nope. "Troglodytari" is the closest thing in true Latin to "troll" that I know. The phrase you cite is, of course, mock Latin.

(I know there was a missing "r" in the spelling of "carboundum", too.)

:cool:The original question was "Why so many pirates in Houston" what is definition of many, New York has numerous pirates operating in high rise apartments that are almost impossible to catch even if it was a FCC priority ? and If they had the resources to pursue them. Houston given the large metro area that extend From about Galveston on the South to Conroe on the north, and a good 50 miles or more east and west has thousands of square miles, When you consider that, Houston has relatively few pirates per area and population, with only one or two at the most operating on average at any given time. In addition Houston has a number of Ham operators and other people who love the chase of finding pirates and who assist the FCC in shutting them down, many have Doppler equipped direction finding equipment in their vehicles, better than the FCC has, and have assisted in many cases of Broadcast Pirates and other illegal operations being shut down along with the many radio experts on this blog who know ever time a flea farts between 88 & 108 Mhz, So the chance of a Pirate in Houston going undetected is like a ice cube on a Hot plate staying frozen. Houston is not a friendly place for illegal RF operations of any kind. It took over two years for Ham volunteers and the FCC to nail the X -con wrecker driver who made profane and racist comments on a active HPD patrol channel from his vehicles which He changed from time to time with hidden radios and antennas, but he got nailed and after all that effort the FCC did not nail Him on any thing, the only thing they got Him on was being a X-con carrying a gun, and the cops got that collar.

Supporting your point, it is even larger. Belleville to the NW, Winnie to the East, Freeport to the SW and Corrigan to the NW. It's over 110 miles from Belleville to Winnie; the area is something like 5000 square miles.

I had a great uncle who was a Catholic priest. He and my mom used to like to argue religion a lot.

I remember being about 12, walking into the room, and asking them where Cain got his wife.
They went at it for 4 1/2 hours.

This thread is kind of reminding me of that.

I was going to say, Houston, Dallas, and the other Texas markets have surprisingly little pirate activity. Texas does however have a sizeable number of part 15 radio stations.

 Freddy, At least the information on this thread is not over 2000 years old. and can be accessed and verified pro or con with out dusting off a scroll.

Maybe the Pittsburgh FCC office is just unusually efficient.

Sort of like the old Bob Newhart telephone routine.

"Hello, Customs Bureau? I need to talk to the Cuban cigar guy.
.......

Hello, Cuban cigar guy? I just called to say, you're doing a great job.
I haven't seen a Cuban cigar in years!"

 Now You can probably buy Cuban Cigars in the Capital gift shop ? I liked Newhart too, good clean comedy with out race, sex, and political agendas, now Chris Rock and other modern ? comedians have a Shock routine and any thing goes. but they wouldn't do it if they didn't have a audience watching the commercials and buying the products and sponsors lined up.

:cool:Liberty, and added to the number of part 15 stations You mentioned there are tons of internet streaming stations, all these legal avenues of broadcast remove most reasons to have a pirate station, unless You just haft to broadcast on the air license or not, and enjoy living on the edge the thrill of the chase and eluding the law.

 Robertsez If You want Joe to see your posts put them after his blogs not mine, I think it is amusing and a testament to you IQ. that You think I am Joe, Do Your home work. There are some similar experiences, I got a rubber check from Roy and Joe got a Rubber LMA, We both own or operate radio towers, His is 250 mine is over 400 ft. I have a Masters peace officers license, Joe has other licenses, I worked for a TV station KBTX in Bryan, Joe has a pending experimental TV license and A LMA for TV. I remember, Your familys FM station Tower at Wheel lock being right next to a creek bed, and probably washed away years ago, Joe thinks Wheel lock is a stuck brake shoe, I am old enough to be Joes Daddy and Your Great Grand paw, or maybe You are older that You sound on your blogs, Ryan

I have banned robertsez and First Fone 65 for seven days.
They were told to stop this nonsense and they did not heed my warning.

To correct some incorrect info, there is no pending experimental TV license nor LMA for TV.. There IS a deleted LPTV license and that's it. Let's keep the FACTS straight, shall we?

Got my ass thrown out of Cathecism class asking the same question!!

The town of Wheelock is one word, if we're truly in correction mode here. Cain's wife is also his sister, folks. I mean, Adam was still fathering children into his 100's, Seth being born in Adam's 130th year. Eve, whom Adam named, was given the name as "the mother off all living". There was only one woman, Eve, which begat sons and daughters who married one another and began the initial population of the world.

Incest was necessary for human survival a second time in this world, as the Great Flood wiped out all but Noah and his family. Take a guess as to how the world was repopulated again after that catastrophic event.

As for this topic, even though we've had quite the uptick on the Houston boards regarding one particular unauthorized party, Houston is not your typical hot bed for piracy. They have came and went over the years, but none of them typically stay long. Certainly not the pirate playland like Austin.
