Why the heck is KTWV 94.7 The Wave doing playing Maxwell's Ascension

I know it's nothing new but why is KTWV playing it ??? I don't remember them playing Maxwell's Ascension(Don't Ever Wonder) because in 1996, Urban AC KJLH was the main station to play Maxwell's music in the late 90's not KTWV if memory serves. In 1996 KTWV was heavy on Smooth Jazz/New Age Hits by Kenny G, Kim Waters and Kirk Whalum. For the people who lived in L.A. in the 90's can you answer my question. I still love that song but IMO it belongs Urban AC and Urban Contemporary stations not on Smooth Jazz people.

KTWV is smooth AC, not smooth jazz.

But did KTWV play it in '96 yes or no. What about 92.3 The Beat?
BJordan, to answer your original question, the reason 94.7 The WAVE KTWV along with other Smooth AC & Smooth Jazz stations play Maxwell's "Ascension" is primarily because Kirk Whalum remastered the song as an instrumental. I've never been to Southern California so I don't know if The WAVE ever played the original vocal version back in 1996 or not. That is all.

I do recall V98.7 in Detroit playing it before it dropped SJ. Not sure if they still play it on the HD2 service.

Seems to me the same thing happened with Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" - another song that isn't particularly "smooth" and certainly isn't "jazz". The cover by Najee seemed to make it okay to play the original.

My question has been answered, KKBT was all over Ascension(Don't Ever Wonder) back in 1996. Comments are closed to this post people.
