Why the HELL did Kiss 108 play Clay Walker?

Ha ha...years ago, when I worked for Mediabase, I picked up "The Voice" by the Moody Blues (should have presumably been "The Voice Within" by Christina Aguilera, a current at the time.)

As for your question, the answer is simple: Boston radio is a cartel run by people who have been in this market forever, and aren't going anywhere. All the companies probably have an arrangement: CC gets the kids, Entercom gets the sports and rock dudes, Greater gets to run the older chick powerhouse, CBS gets the heritage news station, everybody runs a stopset at :10, and they all cash checks.

Give me a stick, and I'll beat Kiss in a year. Wanna play the Matty card? I'll remind you that Bostonians are provincial and don't know any better.

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that it may have been sung on American Idol recently? That's the only reason I can see them playing country.

They run Clear Channel Premium Choice programming during that daypart. So you may want to check whether it was picked up on any of the other hundreds of stations around the country carrying the same programming.

If not, sometimes songs get detected from commercials or get detected incorrectly.

UPDATE: According to yes.com, they played "She Won't Be Lonely Song" by Curb Records at 11:24 pm followed by "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" by Pitbull at 11:28 pm. And on second thought, you weren't clear as to whether you were listening to the radio/internet stream or found this on Mediabase or a similar site...

UPDATE: Last time - hahaha... It appears that is the Clay Walker song. It also shows up on yes.com on other stations carrying Clear Channel Premium Choice. Given that, it wouldn't surprise me if they selected the wrong song or something.

Hahaha no I was definitely listening in the car, and definitely shaking my head in disgust... FLAT OUT LAZY.

Is it possible there is a country station on 107.9 that was bleeding into the Kiss 108 signal? It happened in suburban Philadelphia, where a station on 107.5 changed from a "Jack"-type format to spoken word/Christian programming. Yes.com listed urban titles for this station. Sure enough, it had been picking up songs playing at the same time from 107.5 WBLS in New York.

No, it is documented on yes.com as well that Kiss played it. It is also documented on yes.com that all other stations airing the Clear Channel Premium Choice voice-tracked programming for mainstream top 40 at that hour also played this song. It was probably a mistake...and there was no live body to correct the mistake once the song hit the air.

Our local CC clone Kiss 95.3 also played it yesterday. It's amazing how much inadvertent exposure this country song got due to the gaffe.
