why was jimmy the board op fired as well?

Is there any good reason why jimmy k. was fired along with depetro? I mean was he supposed to be expected to hit the "delay" button on the comments. they weren't againt any FCC regualtions. Jimmy, seek out a lawyer ASAP!!!

I'm with you. If the board op at 96.9 were axed for letting one of the seven dirty words get on air you could understand that. Depetro's board op being flushed along with him is just corporate bullying. Wolfe and Kahn should be ashamed of themselves.

Have the '7 Words' been updated? I heard "Spaz" on AFF tell a woman she had elephant t it s. Now, there's a board op that should be fired.

I've said in other threads, I think the board op was collateral damage here. But we do not know. It could be that Jason spoke with him about keeping an ear out for anything this unpredictable nut job might say. There's also an outside chance --- and I know this is pure conjecture, but hey, welcome to radio-info -- that DePetro brought this guy up from Rhode Island with him.

It's a shame though. Whatever the reason, this board op was doing a fairly thankless job in an industry he probably loves, much like the rest of us. Now he's got the Scarlet Letter of letting something get over the air that he shouldn't have, according to his boss. Was this written policy? I doubt it. Can Dane Schulman or Jim Sokolove or Perry Mason help him? I doubt that, too.

Firing DePetro was smart. Firing the board op -- based just on what we know so far -- was heartless.

I can't claim to be an attorney, but I think WRKO was wrong to fire the board op IF (a really huge IF) he had been previously instructed to dump out of anything that could be actionable.

I also think it could be argued that the board op works for the station, not the talent (and I obviously don't know what the arrangement was in this case; maybe he did work for DePetro directly), so his first duty would be to protect the license and the revenue stream, and not to stroke the talent's ego or protect him from his own worst impulses.

Duh. The IF should have been UNLESS.

Thus proving my screen name. :p

nice catch. proud of yourself?

My understanding is that "Jimmy" was the board-op for Whitley before Dipetro came up from Providence. True or not (i'm pretty sure it is) he SHOULD NOT have been let go. When did "Fat Lesbian", a true statement by the way, become something that needs to be dumped?

Mickey 37, I think what Jason Wolfe claimed was it was the WAY DePetro said it that was the reason behind the firing.

I still think it was the ratings! They needed any excuse to dump DePetro.

As rude as F... L... is, I'm quite sure Grace Ross is pleased that she's getting the "sympathy vote" and might get another 1,000 votes or something out of this. Not going to have Deval Patrick shaking in his boots, but it'll look nice on the Green Party's resume'... The more votes the better. Will this put Christy in 4th place?

She should send DePetro a box of candy or some flowers for all the attention & mileage she's got out of this.

Go Grace! Grace Ross for 9-noon RKO!

I didn't know there were now nine words you can't say on the radio,
but apparently the PC police at WRKO think so.

Well, I can give Jimmy several "wrongful termination" lawyers he should NOT contact.

It was this poster's experience to have been sandbagged at that station [ previous owners] to the Boston Globe BEFORE I knew anything was wrong. Also, "Jimmy" is not a public figure. So, if he can prove he was libeled by WRKO/Entercom and The Boston Globe and other newspapers he will not have to prove malice as John DePetro would as a public figure.

Jason Wolfe must have been getting pressure from some corporate suit and it came down to the little man's job and or the host and his engineer/ producer. Perhaps, Wolfe just has a Napoleonic complex but his act in firing the engineer is repulsive.

As written below, it may have been crap that DePetro was giving out but it was the crap Wolfe and Entercom wanted. Suppose if DePetro just came off as ' fair and balanced' he wouldn't have lasted a year.
He played their game of chance and lost but why should that effect his engineer.

Would like to contact "Jimmy" directly. Does anyone have his full name and address?

Kiss those radio ads for season 2 of Kirstie Alley's "Fat Actress" goodbye!

Full Disclosure. WRKO should give us a press release telling us why a board op was fired. Not that they are going to tell us the TRUTH.

a)DePetro's ratings sent him packing
b)for whatever reason they didn't like Jimmy and needed an excuse to toss him over the side as well

Has to be political. Didn't a poster say that Jimmy probably was warned to watch DePetro's mouth for the
station? If that was his job RKO probably didn't want the p.c. police sending letters to the Herald :) again.

WILL LAWFIRM OF DEPETRO & DEPETRO help out JIMMY THE BOARD OP?
Interested in seeing how DePetro's lawyer will approach RKO. Isolate worse crimes by Limbaugh, Savage,
Howie "Towel Heads did it" Carr, Dunce & Callahan Tunnel, Ted Sarandis screaming pro-war stuff, Virgin Boy
giggling when the Bombs dropped over Baghdad and a/b them with "Fat Lebanese".

Then RKO lawyers take out the Arbitrons.

Then DePetro lawyer takes his contract and magnifies certain protections for non-performance "As WRKO wanted a Republican shill, and got it, not letting J.D. truly be an "independent man", these ratings are the fault of the station...

Call Saddam's lawyers in for J.D.

Will they bring up Jimmy as an example of a malicious firing? Will they defend Jimmy's position?

Joe in terms of your demanding full disclosure you're forgetting that Jason Wolfe does not owe anyone here any explaination for anything since this is a message board and nothing else. However it would be interesting to know what the rationale was to launch a ten dollar an hour plebe who has to defer to Depetro's wishes. Also you mentioned that you thought Jimmy was fired because of poor ratings, doesn't make sense because board ops are not responsible for ratings. You're off base my friend.

DePetro, as I stated, may have been thrown out for the ratings.

It seemed to be an opportune time for the DePetro roady, oh, board op, to get the heave-ho as well
if Entercom wasn't happy with him. I was very clear that I don't know why Jimmy got fired.
Probably for non-performance. People here are defending him when they don't have all the facts -
he might've been a bad board op.

Yer right, Jason owes us no explanation - though it would be nice.

I agree it would be nice but it would probably also lead to self incrimination or incrimination of the company's personell practices. If Jimmy were smart he'd sue but I doubt that he'll fret losing a ten dollar an hour gig plus it would cost a good deal to do. I wish him luck because he probably di not deserve to be treated this way.

Reason given, I've heard, is that DePetro had told the board op he was going to go after Ross/make fun of
her, etc., and the board op didn't bleep out those words...I think it was in Sat Globe or Herald

Would Greater Media hire DePetro? Fill-ins at first...? Who else? Surely not WBZ...Air America's
token conservative...? Supposedly there has been interest in "Boston, New England, Washington, D.C,
and New York City".

Hah! Nobody gets fired in Boston and then goes to work in NYC! ...What?...Opie and Anthony...?
Never heard of 'em... ::)
