Why was my WXCT post deleted?

This morning at about 9:30am, I posted the message below. But it was deleted less than an hour later.

Why? Is it because CABRadio, one of the moderators of this board, is also the GM of WXCT?

My original post... "As I write this, WXCT in Southington has been broadcasting dead air for at least an hour. I tuned in just after 8:30am and found the carrier, but no programming. The only thing I heard was a brief network newscast at 9:00am that was joined mid-sentence and then interrupted mid-sentence about a minute later by a 10-second station promo. Then back to the dead-air.

I tried calling them but got an answering machine."

Don't know why your post got deleted, but the problem with WXCT would seem to be that someone did a bad job programming the automation computer. I've noticed the dead air when I woke up at 7:30. After 8:00 they were running an infomercial. Then they did a station promo after the infomercial ended followed by more dead air. I heard a couple more sets of infomercials and dead air since then.

Oldies 1320 had this problem on Labor Day.

Bring back carts and CD's and we wouldn't have this problem. Live programming will always be more reliable.

And Right Now......

And Right now WXCT is running Spanish Programming.

Read into it any way you want. There is always a slew of negativity that follows ANY post about WXCT. You said you called...though, you left no message.

Fact of the matter is that the automation system got hung up on a bad command. It's happened to the best of the best, so we are in good company.

Yes Jay, we still have some ethnic programming on the weekends. There will be Spanish from 3-5 on Sunday too. I just thought I'd let you know so you can keep the scorecard correct. I'd hate for you to miss that program. Be sure to keep listening, we might beam an alien transmission next and you wouldn't want to miss that!<P ID="signature">______________

Does that mean you're picking up Coast to Coast AM? (hehe)

The moderators of this board are always moaning and groaning about personal attacks and inappropriate comments. Yet here is an example of the moderator belittling a poster for an entirely innocuous comment that is only pointing out a simple fact. It's ok though, he's a moderator.

Charlie...you sound very defensive in the replies that you've made to the comments within this thread. Could it be that you're not entirely happy with the direction of your own radio station?

Re: Do as I saym not as I do

First: I know Jay. He knows I can be VERY sarcastic. I'd be surprized if he took offense...if you did Jay, no harm meant. You know we tease you about your thorough knowledge of Hartford radio.

Second: I am actually thrilled that we are back to Talk. I left WXCT in February to pursue other interests. I was asked to come back last month. So, as far as the direction...I'm good. Thanks for your concern though.

Re: And Right Now......

Watch it Charlie. Or else the next time I visit you, which may be this week as I have the week off, I'll be armed with water balloons. *Big Grin*

Re: Do as I say, not as I do

Ok.... I guess I got a little carried away because I was upset that my original post was deleted.

I agree with the general rule in this forum that we shouldn't be attacking people on a personal basis. (Although I have to admit I've been guilty of doing that. I will definitely refrain from doing that in the future.) My original post was not meant to attack WXCT, but just to point out that something unusual was going on at that station.

If it had happened on any other station I would have posted the information about them too.

Every station has moments of dead air, but I thought an hour or longer was worthy of comment...especially since it was happening right at that moment.

I mentioned in my post that I tried to call the station, but just got an answering machine. As I think about this a little longer, maybe I should have called the Southington police. Who knows what could have been going on at the studios?

Ya gotta love automation systems and/or the people who program them. Especially on the weekends. You get what you pay for.

GOOD HELP (WAS:WXCT post deleted?)

Not necessarily! Have you ever heard the old saw, "You can't find good help!"?

This is especially true for stations needing part-timers. Sure, there will always be a few roses among thorns, and when you get one of those GOOD people, you will want to hold onto them... but many times, you'll end up with some unreliable PEOPLE. They won't necessarily start out that way, but at some point, you're going to have problems with them calling-in saying they're not able to make it, or just start slacking-off in their duties. It happens. This is only ONE reason so many stations are switching to automation, especially on nights & weekends. (The other main reason is that the computer runs for pennies an hour on electricity. Don't know too many humans who do that!) ;)

As for those "Roses among thorns", chances are good they will want to become full-time, and you won't have a place for them. Then they will have no choice but to leave, and you're back to Square One.

It happens.

Willie...
