why WBAB is the best!

They just rock!! I love the stones and Steve Miller and the Who which I listen too on BAB! nO OTHER STATION COMES CLOSE!

Ah yes, Cox Radio at it's finest. A tight, heavily researched playlist that hasn't really been changed in a year and a half (with a guaranteed Zeppelin and Van Halen song per hour), little talk outside of Roger and JP and frequent reminders that they play 50 minutes of rock every hour. Speaking of heavily researched, you ever notice how many songs about frustration they play (ie Same Old Song and Dance, Same Ole Situation)? And I've heard very similar complaints on other boards here about Cox's other stations, like WPLR across the sound.

Then again, the Cox Radio formula works from a business standpoint so this isn't going anywhere.

And this is a poor excuse at an attempt at BAB bashing, the tread was started for that one reason, and while I dont know much about Cox radios business or their other stations, I have to agree this is working.

Yeah BAB is Grandpa's #1 Rock Station ;D

Well if your grandpa is into classic rock then Id say they are doing their job, funny but with bands like Led Zep, Stones and jeez even the Police having members who could be grandfathers, thats not an off statement. Classic rock is the new oldies, even B103 is leaning towards classic rock now, I heard Van Halen there a few days ago.

 I'm waiting for the day when an oldies station plays "Iron Man" or "Paranoid" as an oldie!

Who's bashing? 'BAB is being run in full Cox fashion including limited personalities and an even more limited playlist with spending little to no $ (like other companies do as well). It's fantastic that they're doing well and wish them continued success, but I would love to hear or hear about WBAB during their heyday when listeners tuned in so they wouldn't miss a thing from their favorite talents.

There's no point in streaming them since sister stations 102.5 The Bone here in Tampa and Rock 105 Jax are cookie-cutters. So we all can enjoy our 52 minute music blocks with the fewest commercials no matter where we go and still feel as if we never left home. ;D

WBAB was better in their Bob Buchman (sp?) days. Just like just about any other station pre telcom act of 1996. They were an AOR station that did very well on Long Island compared to the big New York City AOR stations of that era (WNEW-FM, WAPP, WXRK to name a few). They were live 24/7 and their playlist included more requests from the listeners per hour then the city stations. Even the DJ's got to pick a few songs as well. Their top of the hour ID said it all. WBAB Babylon, thanking everyone on (insert any town or city in their coverage area) for showing the world they love Rock-N-Roll.

What kind of show is JP and Roger doing? For how long has it been on WBAB?

BAB was "The Bomb" back in the 70's-80's. Bob Buchmann, the Friday Morning Crank Call, Jackie 922-WINE Martling, Zebra, Ralph Tortora, Happy Hour live from Gerry's Gin Joint, The Good Rats, Marc Coppola, Marty Curley, Twisted SMF Sister, Rocky and The Fruit, The Get-A-Grip woman, Star Wreck, Active/Security Brokerage commercials with Wantagh and Buckley, even Joel (MMMMidnight!) Martin!
Now it's just a shell of it's former self.

Also, don't forget:

"How do you show the world you love rock n' roll"?

"With a BAB Bumper Sticker!!!"

"And what band can I play for you"?

"Zebra!!"

:D

Yeah that was the 80s wasnt it, most radio was better then, corporate companies took over, but I like Roger and JP, they do some bits, and do talk more than the other jocks on BAB. If they are run like all the other Cox stations, its a company thing, Im betting that the people on the air at BAB and quite frankly most radio stations would LOVE to pick the music, and add something to their shows, but thats no how the company wants it. Shame!

I heard that Roger and JP just passed their 10th year as a morning show.....

Apparently good enough that they haven't been bumped by Bubba yet...

Roger & JP just wrapped up their 10th year. I wish they would just talk more. They're a fun show. Music kind of gets in their way.

I used to co host music specials with Joel Martin on Sunday nights in the mid 70s, Beatles specials(when I was involved with Mark Lapidus and BEATLEFEST), interviews with Long Island's Good Rats, many of my downtown NY Warhol/Bowie chums like Cherry Vanilla, Leee Black Childers, Wayne County, a 2 hour 4th of july weekend interview with Lou Reed,,etc...
how is Joel these days?..where is he?
