Make some money myself w/ VT. Not against.
Hear people complain no jobs, no opportunity, no talent
Jobs, opportunities out there, many VT but few allowed to hog most deny others opportunity.
Why?
If no answer, quit homogenization griping

Sci-Fi comments attempt defuse hot button issue with humor + indicate absurdity of argument in context of larger world/life. This just chat forum after all.

Ending comment with wink indicating acceptance of IMPERFECT world.

you say "this is just a chat forum after all" ... but u are the one who asked the BIG QUESTION, then complained nobody answered it to your satisfaction, THEN re- phrased and wanted input. i think u just didn't get the answers u were fishing for

What I am getting is a lot of enjoyment out of driving you crazy. I mean, seriously, were it not for the semi personal nature of your responses, I would have dropped this and moved on to something more interesting after my second post. I mean, is this really so important? Chat forums are fun!

So few people have so much of the opportunity mainly because people look out for their buddies and that's who the jobs go to, VT OR OTHER. Please note again for the record, I've not said a single word AGAINST voicetracking and am in fact in favor of it to the extent that it puts money into my OWN pockets, so I am also not against personal benefit or greed.

I just find it really interesting that nobody even went there on this thread.

My secret evil plan starting this thread was to get somebody, anybody to admit that.

I mean, it's same as it ever was, we all know that. Plus it's human nature for birds of a feather to flock together. Same as it ever was, pre automation, VT, satellite all the way back to the two cans and a string era. So all of you who keep saying radio is doomed, radio sucks, radio this, radio that...blah blah blah...homogenization...blah blah..Clear Channel bad...no talent....everyone sucks who isn't me....etcetcetc ad nauseum til the cows come home...do something about it or just accept it.

Same as it ever was...

Only problem is...same is it ever was is what got us here.

And there my friends is the blame, with us. Not BIll, Not Lowry, not the FCC...US

Yes, I have lost jobs to others, fairly and unfairly both.
Yes, I have lost jobs to VT'ers
Yes, I have taken jobs from others, VT and otherwise
Yes, I've been hooked up by a buddy before
Yes, I've been pushed out by my PD hooking up a buddy
Yes, I've taken it personally. I also got over it becasue it is business
Yes, I've ground an axe or two in my day. Buried one or two as well, and my back is full of scars as well
Yes, I've been a PD, and hired and fired people and managed tight budgets
Yes, I used automation and VT on my stations
Yes, THE DAY is gone. Yes, my calender reads 2006

Ours is a human industry, supposedly meant to engage humans....I don't know all the answers, or even have the whole solution, maybe not even ANY of it....but what we're doing, AIN't it. Damn, if this is the way it's going to be, just go ahead and give it to Bill and be done with it.

of course that doesn't GUARANTEE more jobs---the if u look at the numbers there ARE. do u really think somebody does a move-in to, let's say Charlotte NC, invests lots of $$$ in a new market-grade tower, studios, etc. ...... and then keeps the "clunky-tape based dinosaurs" method of radio? no way-too much at stake. why do the move-in anyway?

Again...I was using the Class A drop-ins of the late 60's to early 70's as sheer examples. Nobody today uses the automation of the past, but the technology that we have now. The move-ins weren't allowed back then (unless they showed the FCC proof that they weren't taking the only radio service out of that community, and you needed at least a ream of paperwork to prove that).
