I was listening to the Dream Doctor Last night on WTIC and a commercial came on annoucing RedSox Baseball Friday Afternoon at 4:05 and UCONN Football Friday Night at 8:00PM. Then the commercial says If the Redsox game runs past 8PM tune into the Conclusion of the game on our sister station 96-5 TIC-FM. While I don't give a doodle about the Redsox, I think it's not smart for making the listeners change stations. A few of my co-workers are Sox fans and agree the entire Sox game should be on WTIC 1080 and the UCONN Football Game Should be on 96.5 FM.

Depends on the contracts. The Red Sox re-trans agareement might allow it to move to FM whereas the UCONN doesn't.

Besides, doesn't Connecticut have a much bigger UCONN fan base than a Red Sox one? There's probably more money on the UCONN game.

And besides... What's so hard about pushing a button to change the station?

Exactly! The Red Sox/ White Sox game the other night started on ESPN2 and moved to ESPN1 as soon as the NLDS game was over.

WTIC-1080 is a 50,000 watt station whose nighttime signal can be heard in much of the eastern half of the country. WTIC-96.5's signal probably doesn't go much further than 60-65 miles from the transmitter site in Avon.

Yes, those outside of New England could hear the game on ESPN radio, but Red Sox fans outside of New England who want to hear Boston announcers Joe Castiglione and Jerry Trupiano have to tune-in WTIC-AM. None of the other Red Sox radio affiliates has a night signal that extends outside of New England to such a large area.

And in the case of U/Conn, while their football team is rapidly improving and has drawn well at their new stadium, men's and women's basketball are still far and away the most popular U/Conn sports (and in fact, the two most popular sports teams of any kind in Connecticut!).
