Why?

Why can't we be more positive on this board? Sure, some things are amiss, we all know it..but why does it appear that the obsession is to point out that which we perceive to be wrong? After we are all (supposedly) in the business
of broadcasting, but few address it! Look at the number of posts and I think it will reflect the general dissatisfaction of this trend. FWIW and IMHO. Cheers

I apoligize for my post that question should have come in a different way.

Radio has really gone through some major changes over the years and you are now becoming a very rare bread. I have much respect for you as everyone else I've known has just about sold out and moved on. Your operation is technically far ahead almost any operation is a comperable market. Even though I no longer work in radio I very much still have a passion for it. I wish I had grabbed my chuck when that was possible but I was young and dumb.

personal experience - I stayed on the air almost all night many times back as a teenager reading warnings and radar updates off the associated press wire machine and talking with Civil Defence. Back then access to a radar or TV wasn't common at most stations.

I hope you can understand my post or see it in a different light. It was not intended to be any attack but more so to open a discussion. Hopefully that can stil happen.

I have family down just beyond your area who only have satelite tv and get no local wx or news. During the bad weather months I loose allot sleep keeping an eye open for them. To my knowledge their hometown station is mostly unmanned and has never been a place people there turn to when bad weather rolls through.

> No problem...I will buy lunch some day if you come to Batesville...We can discuss "the good ole' days" and some of the outstanding operators that one thrived in the Delta...Take WGVM...WDDT, and WDSK for example. Once outstanding.
I am a native of Shaw, and recently passed thru. There is no Shaw anymore. Sad...( Did you know that Paul Marks Galtelli and Stan Sandroni are also from Shaw?). Thanks

I knew Paul's son growing up when he had WKZB. Which for years was on the
community bulletin board channel on cable in Clarksdale.

I never knew Stan but I remember him on TV and radio ads in his Greenville days.

I'd like to add

Keeping this to radio, while there have been changes that native Memphians and those in surrounding communities notice, here's a positive for you. Upon returning to New England last fall, I was dismayed to discover that nearly all the radio stations here either have inferior talent (and I do mean BAD), or it's a satellite feed. Boston used to stick out in my mind as the best radio market in the country and it's gone to the dogs... and there's more sniping and backbiting here than you guys can imagine.

Radio in and around Memphis, frankly, is staffed with far better talent, both in terms of professionality and in talent than anything up here. And, while I there's a general dissatisfaction with conditions in this business, its ten times worse up here.

I guess all things are relative. The real gentlemen of this business seem to have all moved on to other things. But I'd cherish what you guys have down there. Conpetition between stations be damned, all the radio groups from Entercom to Flinn have some really great talent and good people, so everybody count their blessings that you work in the market that you do because the grass ain't necessarilly greener elsewhere.

When my son graduates from HS, I may be back. Miss Memphis a lot.

Well... its better now than it was a couple of years ago. Nobody's throwing darts at Cat/Star anymore And I think the flame war we had between MRG/Citadel and Entercom is done now... this is about the most polite board on R-I at this point. Thanks to all for that.<P ID="signature">______________
