WIBC # 2!

WIBC FM right behind WFMS for the latest book.... congrats!

Yessiree!
WIBC-FM beat it's last AM book by 1+ share.

And AM 1070? Well, that frequency went from 6+ share, and 9+million in revenue, to a 1.5 share, and nowhere near prior revenue levels.

I can see why they would be celebrating. :D

Something's strange ... WHHH shouldn't have gone down three points in one book ???

And for all Warm's efforts, they finished dead last, behind WCBK and WFDM. (I was expecting a poor performance, but dead last is a bit surprising) :D

WFMS was way up.

It's books like these that make ad agencies use a four book average.

So 93.9 has fallen from a 3.7 in the Fall of 2006 to a 0.4 in the Winter of 2008? It's a good thing WFMS is back over 11 and Jack is #7 because that free fall would make a great first drop on any roller coaster at your favorite summer amusement park. Do I hear anyone crying for Cumulus? :'(

So not only did 93.9 fall off the map, the signally-challenged rimshot that took over its format at 95.9 actually topped it 12+. Way to go.

Never thought I'd see the signally-challenged 107.1 tied with 1070 in 12 plus.

Yeah...okay. Times have changed. ;)

I still wonder if it really makes sense to pull a format that makes an AM stick perform well and move it to an FM, even if the FM is somewhat underperforming. If you add the total share count of 1070 and 93.1 pre-WIBC switchup, total listenership between the two stations was still higher.

Then again, I understand the electrical interference AM suffers, as well as the predominant usage of the FM band over the AM.

The bottom line is that the content must be good; if it is good, people will use whatever medium they have to to find it.

All Sports stations is more a male Revenue generator than they are a ratings juggernaut. I'm sure ESPN is happy with the .5 jump they got moving from 5,000 watt WXLW to 50,000 watt WFNI. ESPN was wanting a better signal for some time. I'm Sure Emmis is gonna get in the long run more in ad sales with WIBC on FM and WFNI than they would have with Radio Now and WIBC on AM. Now the question is how long will WXLW try to put on a front as a 3rd run all sports station. Indy almost cant support 3 talk stations even though the 3rd is on a now more signally challenged rimshot at 95.9 than it was on 93.9 along with WIBC and WXNT. Indy cant support 3 sports stations. wxlw losing ESPN for Sporting news Radio lost all its ratings it did have which was a 1.0. With WXLW and WNDE competing against Each other they combined for a 2.5. in one book with WXLW, WFNI and WNDE it was a 2.8 and that was all WFNI and WNDE and nothing out of WXLW.

I remember when that Smulyan guy launched The Fan in New York. It eventually became one of the highest billing stations in the country with similar ratings to WFNI-AM. Seems to me when he sold it (thanks Mariners!) the sales price set a new record.

So do I, John. Complete with start up imaging produced by Rick Cummings and Mark Patrick in between my client sessions in the old WENS Landmark Center production studios. Don't take me wrong. I have no doubt that 1070 will be another success for Emmis.

Not being a sports fan, I can't comment on WFNI. But I will say this...the sports have been kept off of WIBC (except for the afternoon show at the track) and that makes WIBC a better product in my eyes (and ears). If 1070 is as focused on sports as WIBC is on news/talk, I think it will do fine. Jeff's made a mistake or two (can you say TV?), but he's also scored some home runs...and I do believe the ole boy has a few left in him.

Operation Chaos. FMS will always have ratings for obvious reasons.

Talk radio is the future as I stated earlier. Evolution in progress. There as SO MANY media choices competing for attention. People want to express their opinions and hear what other have to say. For all we know, the internet may be having an indirect influence on people with their intellectual (at whatever level) interface with their machines.

It's too bad 93.9 dropped all of the good programming that was just staring to take hold in place of the same old pabulum cr#p. 95.9 has very poor coverage on the far-north side of town and they still have better ratings.

Congrats IBC...keep the great LIVE programming flowing.

I am surprised that at least for awhile they didn't just simulcast the two stations.

Greg Rakestraw is a friend of mine, and I'm sorry to see WXLW slip. I think Mancow pulls the station down. They need a local morning sports show. That's a niche market that isn't filled right now.

Did even WBRI at 1500 AM top 93.9 in the ratings? WBRI is a daytimer and runs Christian programs all day.

Right on Jon. We work with Greg pretty closely on the internet side of things and he is an incredibly hard worker. He and his crew give it a great go. He and Brad do a fine job in the afternoons. I think they do need a quality local morning show to give them a little boost and maybe keep listeners throughout the day. It would probably boost their numbers in the afternoon. Greg and the gang probably have something up their sleeves and won't sit idely by those ratings for long.

I hear WIBC on every business I stop in lately. I wouldn't have thought this to be the case.

My first few weeks of hearing Rush on FM were strange but the processing has helped this. The Walter Winchell syndrome. His voice on television didn't take like it did on radio.

Garrison has wandered younger in his approach. Yes and PIGS DO FLY! I didn't expect this like it has happened. Sometimes he just sounded like a grumpy old man. (He can be) Lately this has changed and to his credit.

Like Bob I hated sports on WIBC. If they can start to be regional in weather and provide weather info for parts East after the storms pass through this would be a big help.
