WIBC - Depend On It

I've never felt like there was anything really wrong with WIBC's newscasts. What comes between them sometimes needs to be punched up a bit. But imho WIBC is more listenable now than it's been at any time in the past 5 years.

they should go "hot talk" and actually be entertaining....indy hasn't introduced an interesting "high profile" full campaign since bob and tom in '83, newstalk...boring, pretentious n stuffy!

Didn't Emmis already try that with "Real 97.1"?

97.1 will never succeed at anything until they get rid of the IU sports...takes 100% of the audience & forces them to change stations....brilliant on past management's part. Hopefully new management will toss that albatross overboard.

Considering that 1070/97.1 is the flagship of the IU Radio Network (how'd that happen???), I doubt they're going to remove IU from WLHK any time soon.

Indeed...how did that happen? IU is a Bloomington school last I checked...makes little sense for their flagship to be nearly 50 miles away. What really sucks is when a conflict happens & a game gets moved to 93.1. Then 3 Emmis stations at once are forced out of their normal format. At least someone there is smart enough to protect B105.7 from this self destructive activity. Imagine how successful iPods would have been if they were preempted for an IU game?

WIBC is making some subtle changes...adding in the term 'Depend On It', utilizing the ABC news sounder, having the image voice produce a lot of the stuff that was done live in the past...adds a nice polish to an already good news talk station.

Growing up in central Illinois, I listened to WLS for music & WGN for Cubs baseball all the time. I'd never heard of WIBC until I moved to Indiana in 1977. I moved to Indy in 1980 and I'm sorry but WIBC has never been able to hold a candle to Chicago radio. It's okay but it's not major market radio.

I don't think Amber Sterns will be able to pull off a fast paced tag team newscast, though. She can't ever make it through a newscast with stumbling on something.
I've thought about this for the last few weeks & agree that Amber did stumble on a few words here & there in the past. But my ears think she has adjusted to the new faster paced delivery well--with seemingly fewer stumbles. Agree or disagree? That doesn't say how she'd do in a tag-team situation, but so far I think she might be up to the challenge. Hope so!

Not yet. She still can't make it through a newscast without a couple of major stumbles. Focus. Concentrate.

After reading this post several days ago, the next time I heard her she stumbled at least twice during a two-minute period. And have heard her do it a couple times since.

Amber is as talented as many other newspeople. WIBC seems to be trying for a very fast paced news delivery. When you go fast stumbles can happen more often.

She is no Cheryl Miller or Sharon Alseth, but is adequate. I think Joe Olery and Stan Lehr are their best anchors. Their other very strong anchor is miscast doing an afternoon show.

She's been stumbling for the last year and a half that I've been listening.

She's may be a wonderful person and a great news writer or producer, but it is obvious that she has trouble getting through a newscast. And it's not very professional.
