Heard on the morning show today a request to send show comments to their text messaging number. "What do you like about the show?" Innocent request or is this a part of a bigger picture to shake things up for the fall book? ???

Far from innocent, more like questionable marketing. They are building a database of known, reliable, working cell phone numbers in order to "text blast" you and others about upcoming promotions, programming, etc. If you like junk faxes, you'll love text-blasting.

I doubt you are correct. I think you have to "opt-in" for a text blast service. Sending your comments regarding a show does not qualify as an opt-in for receiving future messages. This is especially true for text services where a charge or usage credit is created on a users account.

Concerning junk messages...they (WIBC News) are pretty careful when they send out news alert emails...that it is actually news.
