This guy is apparently doing a trial run in afternoons this week. He's strong. He would take them to another level if takes the job.
 
Its Abdul working the show this week.
 
The guy on this week....mehh. Carson sounded the most slick, Abdul sounded the most in the know locally. Either of them would be good for this slot.

It all depends if they are talking in 30 blips and filler in between the commercials.
That is what Ed Wenck was relegated to.
Lets see if the current PD lets them loose.
 
Carson sounded good, but Abdul seems like the clear winner. He's connected and aware locally, entertaining, knows how to handle callers, and comes off as likeable. He'd be good in the 9am-noon slot as well.
 
At this point Abdul is in 1st place, followed by Rob Carson. Tony "isdn breath" Katz comes in last. All the other auditioners are somewhere in-between.
 
Abdul is a nice guy, but his lack of ratings at WXNT has got to be a concern for WIBC. That's why I think he's better suited for weekends/fill-in.

He was on a afterthought AM with hardly any promotion. If he got a .3, that would be OK.
 
Yeah, Greg Garrison on wxnt would have had similar numbers, probably lower than Abdul's. Abdul's presence was the only place that station made any money at all. WXNT is now almost off the map entirely, down to a .1 with another un-needed sports format. Abdul is quick, bright, entertaining, and local. And he doesn't let the bumper music play for more than a couple of seconds before he jumps in. Garrison needs to learn that people don't come to talk radio to hear music drone on & on. Garrison is entertaining too, but in a much different way.
 
He said he's in DC these days, so probably so. Carson would be a good in the afternoon slot. He has everything needed, although he's not tuned into to local situations. He did make a real effort toward that end during his week on air, but it's not possible to learn it all in a few days. If he has an advantage over Abdul, it's the fact that he's a little broader and not quite so government/politics centered.
 
Aren't there some other WXNT guys out there that might get a shot? I know that they didn't have many local folks the last few years. When they first went N/T, they had a few more people on the air over there.
 
Abdul was all they had at WXNT in the last couple of years. Greg Browning did a few talk shows 4-5 years ago but he's at Cumulus now. Jason Hammer did a sports talk show, but WIBC is not the place for that, even though they do seem to be edging more sports reports onto the station and fewer news reports.
