WIBG AM/FM

Are both WIBG AM and FM both for sale???...or is this just speculation...I have been complaining about the signal on the AM since it was hit by lightning way back when...and everyone at the station had said for months WE ARE WORKING ON IT..still a mess as of today....Obviously.it will take a lot of dollars to get the AM transmitter back in proper working order...so who would purchase a daytime only station with a transmitter problem :-[....as far as the FM side...is it true that WMID has a 3 to 1 margin over 94.3????

Bobby Wick (WYRS) & Neil are very, very good engineers. They got everything back up and running.......the stations transmitters are in fine condition, if not Brand new. Have no fears. If one were to purchase it. They would be getting on hell of a great property.

Answer 1. Fact.

Answer 2. It is what it is.

Answer 3. Practically. It is such an embarrassment that 1020/94.3 no longer subscribe to ARB, so the bottom feeder numbers are not published publicly.

For those who are not involved in radio today, know that Arbitron has become out of reach for all small broadcasters. Only Equity and Townsquare can afford to subscribe. Not even Longport buys the book. Yet another reason why there are so few Mom and Pop operators anymore.

Arbitron charges nearly $50,000 per station to play in their ballpark. Now, who in their right mind would pay Arbitron $100,000 for numbers for a Class A FM and daytimer AM? WIBG would never re coup the money from National sales, especially with the oldies format. National buyer want younger demos. Same for the other independents.

As far as engineers go, Bob and Neal are both very competent. Probably not the transmitters - most likely the grounding system is to blame for holes in the signal. 1020AM had a big chunk of their copper ground stolen by thieves a couple of years ago. The copper was replaced, but once you mess with the grounding integrity it's hard to get it back without a complete re-do.
