WIBR 1300 in Baton Rouge flips to Urban Talk

This either happened on Monday or Tuesday. They're using Radio-One's national talk format, and good luck trying to find some info on that on the internet. Radio One's website is next to useless.

The lineup's biggest name is Rev. Al Sharpton, and the afternoon show is Two Live Stews - and that's the extent of my knowledge of the format.

Doubt many care about 1300 unless it went back to sports, and I don't see this format lighting up the ratings, unless Citadel puts a little bit of promotional cash behind it.

WIBR update

Got to listen to a little bit more of the new format...

They call themselves "The Power for (or of, can't recall now) of Baton Rouge - 1300 WIBR".

Apparently simulcasting the Tom Joyner morning show with sister station Q106.5. Clay Young is listed in the lineup, but I don't know where his show is. He was kept on after the great purging of 1300 last year - I heard him doing something on the weekends, once again on Q (which 1300 was simulcasting full-time until this week).

Apparently all Radio One hosts the rest of the day. And wow, do some of them sound bad. Rev. Al sounded like he was in constant need of a chance to catch his breath, from the second he went on the air.

All in all, I don't really know how this format will do.

And just for fun, apparently Q106.5 has picked up the Michael Baisden show for afternoons. Talk about fighting in your own format.

Michael Baisden

Citadel has picked him up for their urban AC (KNEK 104.7) in Lafayette as well. This station has been #1 for at least 3 books with little help from the local management according to the staff. Apparently the guy who programs Old School in New ORleans is the new regional PD or something and this was his idea.

That would be Lebron Joseph, or "LBJ", and he's a class act and quality programmer. This guy is as good as it gets as a Program Director.
