Just checking out the Utica-Rome election coverage online. The OD and WKTV websites did a stellar job. WIBX thoroughly disappointed me. There are no election results. Not even a blurb summarizing the big races. A few years ago, they used to have a page with a complete list of the races and vote totals. Tonight, NOTHING. Zip, zero, zilch.
In the local news section of their homepage, the latest article has a timestamp of 3:45pm, about a robbery that had taken place 4 hours earlier. Utica's mayor loses his re-election bid, and WIBX has nothing about it whatsoever. They didn't even have the standard "Election Day preview" story most media outlets run earlier in the day to summarize the big races, or the midday look at voter turnout levels. Any media organization that has it's s*** together on Election Day just does this stuff, without even questioning it.
And, as Dave predicted in a previous thread a few weeks ago, SportsWatch is now on at 3pm. I know he's happy, but I still think that's a horrible move. What is the programmer who allowed this decision smoking? Who is the news director that forgot about the that little thing called "the internet" on Election Night? Regent must really not have ANY concern at all for WIBX. I really hope these things come back to haunt them when the fall book numbers are released. That station needs a major shakeup. Several news directors over the past few years haven't been able to accomplish anything significant. Maybe it's time to start looking a little higher up the managerial ladder.
