Their website says "WICC600 IS CURRENTLY OFF THE AIR DUE TO THE SEVERE WEATHER EXPERIENCED IN THE BRIDGEPORT AREA. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND WE'LL BE BACK ON THE AIR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

I know that Bridgeport got hit really hard by the storm this afternoon but does anyone know what happened to WICC. I assume they have generators at their studios and transmitter site.
 
According to reports I have been privy to, an air conditioning unit was blown from its mounting and is said to be breaching the roof over one of the studios. It was also said that part of the building itself was ripped apart. I heard on WEBE just when they were told to evacuate the building as they will need to have it inspected for structural damage.

The AM is back on right now, but there are lapses of dead air between music tracks - probably the automation leaving space for live content that isn't in the studio. Hopefully it won't be a long-term problem for them.

They came back on shortly after you posted your message. It was 10 after 6 when I left my house to go to work at Illusions in Wolcott. I tuned in to hear if they were talking about the storm only to hear music instead.
 
This morning the AM is off the air (probably due to power problems in Stratford, where their transmitter is). The FM appears back to normal with Mike and Norm doing their thing.
 
According to AllAccess, WEBE was on automation for a while, after the storm. And WEZN had to use backup power at its transmitter site in Trumbull.
 
I knew WEBE was on automation as they had to assess if the building was safe to occupy, but I'm surprised EZN had to go to backup power. That would mean WPKN and WSHU-FM would have also been affected since they all share space at Booth Hill, along with CPTV and assorted repeaters and two-way clients.
 
I saw Danny's pictures of the damage that was done to the facade of the WEBE/WICC building. That must have been quite a storm!

Maybe this belongs in another thread but....As a side note...
Another station in the market originally had the afternoon shift voicetracked. But the previous DJ took it upon themselves to stay on live after their scheduled shift to provide timely information.
 
A friend just told me that the Lordship section of Stratford looks like a bomb hit it. Maybe the WICC xmitter site doesn't have electricity because of the nearby damage.
 
That was my first thought since yesterday afternoon WICC was on automation around the time the building had been evacuated. Even with a generator it may be quite difficult getting fuel there without the bridge. The would have to get the harbormaster to help ferry in fuel or a truck (if they had propane) to keep the generator operating.
 
Scott Fybush on Facebook is reporting there's no shoreline power at the transmitter site and that the generator needs to be fixed. For now WICC is only on its internet stream.
