WICC Drops the ball

I'm not usually in CT to see something first hand, but today WICC dropped the ball.

Off 95, I can see huge smoke billowing from what I know now is a fire at the old Remington plant. So where does one go to find local news on the radio? WICC?

Well, maybe if local news is Tim Quinn reading stories out of the morning edition of the newspaper recorded 6 hours earlier. Is it so much to have an afternoon anchor?

Really, what a joke. I'm tired of these horse and pony acts claiming they are things they aren't.

Put the blame on Cumulus, who it seems is so in debt, they are letting people go and making the quality of their stations deteriorate--just ask WFAS AM White Plains, which let go Pam Puso and Jim Cleefield. It could be the same fate with Clear Channel and WELI in New Haven.

And for the record, WICC does have an afternoon anchor, Mike Bellamy, and they have hired as stringers for the most part people who used to work at WSTC/WNLK like Paul Pacelli and Lisa Lacerra. Wayne Winsley went to News/Talk 1400-1350. Also some of ICC's news comes from Metro Source--an Atlanta decision--not really impressed with it myself and know of someone who worked in Maryland and was not fond of Metro.

Then again what do people in Atlanta know about people in Bridgeport? Guess I just wrote my way out of ever working at WICC--especially when you have to deal with the corporate fascists who want to silence the people in terms of information. Guess Laura Ingraham was right in calling the media the Dinosaur Media--BECAUSE THEY ARE EXTINCT IN COVERING NEWS!

I remember the fiery crash on I-95 in Bridgeport that shut down the highway a few years ago. They did send someone out to cover the event and broke in to programming to cover this story. Chris Conley was working for them at the time, but I forget the name of the young man who reported by phone on the dangerous situation. Chris is now in Warsaw, WI working for WSAU Radio, but was offered a job at powerhouse WPTF in Raleigh, NC. His wife said no at the last minute.

TIO--And I am still holding it against Curt Hansen for getting rid of Neal Boortz and Michael Savage. Those two are sure needed in a bastion of socialism like Bridgeport--which has yet another democrat for mayor in Bill finch. Local talk is fine but the fluff David Smith has to offer? REALLY!

Of course I could be wrong.
