I remember visitig a friend that worked the afternoon shift at WIDE AM back in the 70's. They had a morning guy named Alaimo. The lobby looked like my grandmotehr's living room.

Anyone know when it dropped the music?

Boring!Saga bought them a few years ago and simulcast 1490 in Portland. At first it was Standards. Now it's Talk

Well I suppose it is boring but so is Maine radio these days. Well for that matter so is radio in general even radio in NYC isn't what it used to be.

WIDE AM.....was it me or did everyone in the market at one time or another work there?

I've been outta the biz since 1992 --- live in NY now, BUT the last station I worked for was WIDE/WSTG. I did middays on Star 94.3 and had babysitting duties for WIDE. 1400 was talk then ... quite awhile before the stations were sold again, and the simulcasts began.

WIDE was a big sounding station, for sure.

It brings to mind another little dynamo: WJTO in Bath. They only had like 500 watts but you could frequently hear them on Cape Cod and in Nova Scotia.

They are 730-AM and 1000 watts and still sounding good...locally owned and operated by JIBGUY!
