Amazing! Usually most stations are steering clear of oldies these days. WIFO-FM is taking a big risk by the True Oldies format.
 
It's not such a big risk. Oldies is still a relatively easy sell direct to clients, even in bigger markets. It's a nightmare to sell to 25 year old female media buyers at out of town agencies. I'm guessing that's not a big chunk of business in Jesup.
 
They seem to be ABC country with a daily hour of gospel Mon-Fri.,and True Oldies on the weekend.Diversified programing,to say the least.

If that's the case, then it seems to be a strange way of attracting an audience.
 
I don't think it's so strange. Variety-block programming is a hallmark of small-town radio. When I was at WZYX-AM 1440 in Cowan, TN, we were ALL OVER the road, with country and Top 40. Church programs and Southern (read: "white") gospel on Sunday, news- and farm-intensive mornings, obits and swap-n-shops around midday. Even in a larger town like Savannah, as late as 1990 WAEV played AC during the week, and the locally-driven "Smokin' Oldies Weekend" beginning Fridays at 5.

Tru Oldies is a weekend format only. WIFO has always employed block formatting/programming. You've overlooked the Gospel/Church Programming 6-Noon Sunday. News and farm intensive AM,(time, not band) yes, obits at noon Swap Shop AM's and PM's. It works. Still. Music is just the glue that holds the rest of the format together.
