WIGL now WSCZ

Hmm wonder what this will mean? A new format? Or a simulcast of WIBZ 95.5? I hope not. Columbia has enough classic hits/AC stations on board! Thanks for the heads up DudeFan.

WSCZ was one of our choices for call letters, since WZLD had been taken already. We decided to ditch it because it was too close to WSCQ.

Z93-9 "Everything That Rocks"

They are on with a similar format as Bad Dog WWBD 94.7 in Sumter/Florence. Z93-9 "Everything That Rocks"

That's going to stir some things up.

CHR would have also been a good choice. CHR is coming back big time. But I guess it is easier to pick off two Class A signals with a rimshot Class C than try to take on Class C WNOK.

Right on DudeFan. I still think a another CHR may pop up. 92.1 and 94.3 look like they would be STRONG contenders, ya think?

As for 94.3 and 92.1, I bet they stay where they are.

Given my druthers, if I had another, full-market signal, I'd be doing some form of CHR. Probably a flanker execution of it that would be impossible for WNOK to address because it would pull them off track if they did.

Hey Steve I am like you I don't see those two changing formats unless somebody came along waving some dead presidents in front of DoubleO... I am shocked that EMF which owns K-Love or Air-1 has not tried to make an offer for those two frequencies. As for Z93.9 I really don't know how well it will do in the Columbia ratings, but call me CRAZEE Harold and company might not being going after ratings instead he might would wanna go after those business that might not can afford to be in stations such as CC, Inner City, or Citadel. I have not looked at what kind of signal it has, but judging by the talk here if I am a betting man with the housing boom that has taken place in the NE side of Richland CO and Kershaw County I could see him actually go after a lot of those businesses on the east side of town and I could also see him try to go after some of the ad pie in Kershaw CO which for the most part WPUB and WCAM has pretty much all to their selves. I think a format like what is on 93.9/94.7 can work since some of the reception of either WARQ and Foxx 102 gets shabby pretty much where 93.9 should have solid coverage... CC

I haven't bounced around downtown or to the West to see how it covers. But Harold has a really tight, focused format. They are running spot sets at least at :40. I didn't get to catch anything other than SCBA spots.

When I was down south last year he had just launched his "Everything That Rock's" on 94.7 and I must say it was pretty good...It was simular to what Milwaukee WI has with it's HOG format, but still like you say very tight. CC1

It is tight, focused, and well put together. It reminds me of an updated 1992 WARQ, which eventually took down a very unfocused Fox 102.

Suspect signal in some places. Otherwise, sounds really good. I'm not sure it can make a proper dent in the Columbia Arbitrons, but it's nice to have a choice other than Fox.

Why in the world do they have a beach music show on tonight? Can't take the "Rock" format that seriously. That had the beach music show on when they were Bad Dog. (On Sundays)

WOW!!! Is that the show that was hosted by Grady Brown!!!!! Yeah it does not fit on a Rock format, but man I did not know that show was around... When I was still at WPUB and would work Sunday nights I would get calls from Sumter just from people who hated his choice in beach music... Man I missed those days... CC1

Downtown, the signal is crap because of being the second adjacent to ARQ. Lexington, Irmo, Northeast all look promising.

The beach music show sticks out like a sore thumb. But then again, I am not a big beach music fan.

My calculation is that WSCZ has enough of a signal in the burbs to put a dent in ARQ and Fox -- which would put them tied with WNNQ and WWNU.
