WIIN 780 / 102.1 FM in Jackson silent

Hey all -

WIIN 780 AM and its translator on 102.1 FM in Jackson filed for a silent STA a few days ago.

At least they went through the proper channels and filed for the STA. There are about half a dozen other AM, translator, or LPFM stations that are also offline that have not bothered to do the same. I have noticed some of those have been off the air for over a year, and worse yet, some were never on the air despite being licensed.

According to the US Census Bureau estimates Jackson has lost 8% of its population since 2020. On paper not a great local business environment.

A huge percentage of small businesses believe cutting advertising is the best way to survive a downturn. I personally have seen business cut advertising until they have a going out of business advertising.
