Wiki says 87.7 will go Christian on Feb 1

Imagine if Family Radio was on 87.7. That would mean 94.7 would be free. I kno, I have a better chance of winning the Mega Millions than for 94.7 to become dance.

Those Bible Thumpers wont give up 94.7 to anyone. ::)

Great... it seems radio doesn't care much about a younger crowd anymore (with B94 flipping, this might be a bad year for CHR/Dance/Rhythmic).

I hope you're wrong. NYC Radio has always been lacking, usually always having too many stations with one format. Look at Smooth Jazz, you'd think it have done well in NYC with all the office high rises and background music. RXP is the only station doing anything close to different on NYC radio now (except before today when Party was still there).
If Cheap Channel were to fold then we'd likely see changes at 105.1 and 103.5. Me, I'd flip 105 to smooth jazz and 103.5 to a format similar to the way Party sounds NOW. (And I stress the NOW part).
But Cheap Channel wont have any of it.

I would disagree with that. Do you know how hard it is to win the Mega Millions?

Nothing wrong with a little Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns right? :)

I am surprised we are allowed to have so many religious broadcasters on the FM dial. I wish there was there was a limit 1 format to each legal range COL (like a 50% rule or something like that) ... maybe then we would not have like 10 AC radio stations.

You never know... They did trade their full-market FM station in San Francisco to a commercial operator in exchange for a powerful low-on-the-dial AM signal. (I would imagine a fair amount of cash was also involved)

SF market is a different animal. Family punched out of that station at a relatively high valuation.
Also, some consider AM to be superior in that market due to the terrain challenges in the Bay Area.
Nevertheless, it does show that in certain circumstances, Family is willing to play ball. In this case, I don't see that happening.
87.7 is a substandard signal with a limited shelf life. No serious broadcaster is going to invest in such an operation.
Scott Fybush said it best when he called it a "Franken FM."

You DON'T want formats regulated as they are in Canada. I think this country is already over-regulated!
There has to be a better way than the behemoth known as the U.S. Federal Government controlling formats, anyone have an idea how?

What exactly does that mean?

A new “radio” signal that uses a TV license just off the lower end of the FM band — a so-called “Franken FM.”

$60 million for KEAR-FM 106.9 in 2006. http://www.dirtsheet.blogspot.com/
$35 million for KFRC-AM 610 in 2006. http://en.allexperts.com/e/k/kf/kfrc.htm

So Family Stations, Inc. (Family Radio) netted about $25 million in the frequency swap.

How about the "Sounds of Life" which will be coming to 87.7 in NYC. There are a few "Sounds of Life" stations in the Hudson Valley area which is in Kingston, NY at 89.7 and elsewhere in the HV listening area carrying Christian music. I would really love to see the "Sounds of Life" coming to New York City soon.

Family Radio has a mission which surpasses whatever money they could make. They know a new owner would turn 94.7 into a Hip Hop or Rap Crap format.

Nor should they have to, unless someone wants to make them an offer for it. Family Radio OWNS the station, and put it on the air way back in the 60's, when no one wanted an FM. How times have changed!
