I've been very busy today. If there is a Wikipedia article about a station in this market, I've probably done something to it.

Actually, some of the articles are so impressive I didn't feel I needed to add anything.

I started new articles for WIST, WBLO and WTHZ.

I added some pre-1984 material to your article on WTHZ. I used to listen to this station when I was driving to school in the late 70's, and just happened to be listening on January 1, 1984, when they switched programming for the stations.

I didn't do as many stations as I thought. I don't know histories for a lot of them.

Matt, some of that pre 84 stuff isn't correct on WTHZ. I read the bit on Wilkapedia but didn't have time this evening to add anything. Actually WLXN split from WBUY (THZ) back in the 60's and was live country. They actually moved the studios uptown Lexington. Didn't last over a year as I recall. WBUY had the distinction of being the only AM radio station in the nation to have dual "Remote Controls" in both of the engineers HOMES! I go back with these stations as early as 1965. APE

Wow...I didn't know that. If you kinow the details on it, go set things right at Wikipedia. I am aware that a storm blew their tower over back in the days when it was WBUY-FM. They used to keep a newspaper clipping with a picture on the bulletin board near the back door.

In the last few days i've updated information on the Wikipedia web page...
Matt, your television station, WGSR, has been added, but i do have a
question, what is your transmitter power on Channel 39, and what is
your web site address?, i'm sure you want to increase power to cover
all of the Triad so that the area cable systems will have to add "Star 39",
which would mean more viewers, and since there is no strong "independent"
in that market, this would be a plus.

Interesting you should ask. After much searching, I finally found the e-mail address for requesting that DirecTV carry our station, and made a formal request a couple of weeks ago for them to do so. This very day they sent me an answer. Here's their response:

We appreciate your interest in DIRECTV as we are always looking for new
programming to enhance the television viewing experience for our
subscribers.
Unfortunately, we are not in the position to add your station to the
local lineup at this time due to capacity constraints in the
Greensboro-Winston-Salem, NC DMA. DIRECTV therefore must respectfully
decline your request for carriage of WGSR-TV in the
Greensboro-Winston-Salem, NC local market.

We are actively seeking to increase the capacity of our satellite system
over the next few years and will retain your information for further
review at a later date.

Talk about brush-offs...somehow they "forgot" that they recently took WLXI-61 off when they put their home network, TCT on the system in place of PBSU. Seems to me there's a hole there that ought to be filled somewhere. Therefore, where's the "capacity constraints" they talk about?

Seriously, to answer your question, it will happen eventually, but I don't have a timetable. In the meantime, I have something coming soon that may make us a bit more "visible" in your area.

Our power output is 7 KW...about the equivalent of a 700 watt FM station in coverage area. We are on four cable systems, with a reach of about 155,000 households on cable and OTA.

We are changing our website. The current site is rather out of date. It is http://www.starnewsstation.com. When the new site is up, I'll post a link somewhere on Radio-Info.

When the analog stations shutdown in a few years, won't that open up some channels that aren't available now and you can increase power to a full power station?

I think I still have that photo of the tower being down, and I remember it being WLXN-FM but WBUY-AM.

I added a bunch more stations, most of them in Raleigh. I only knew the basics, but it's a start. Now that I've done the administrative stuff it's a simple matter for the experts to come in and add more.

Someone's been busy. I found a couple more Raleigh-area stations added before I could get around to them. By people who knew the history.

Plus someone added to all the Radio One histories. What I wonder is why whoever did those didn't do the articles in the first place.

Things are looking up.

is it just me...or does alot of the info on some of the stations in the RDU market on Wiki seem to be taken directly from another site...something along the lines of R D U waves or some site like that ?... just wondering -i didnt see any credit given, but do you have to on Wiki?

The rules say you're supposed to. One article I saw had an advisory to users that it didn't meet standards because it had no source given.

So far, I've just been writing down what I remember and hoping someone else can verify it. If I saw it in a newspaper, I know a library where I can see most newspaper articles on the web for free. The ones that are too old won't work, though, unless I'm willing to look for microfilm or something.
