The linkup between WQNQ and WQNS DID begin on November 20th, 1999. Here's a quote from Asheville's Winter/Spring 2000 Arbitron ratings on the Radio & Records website (courtesy of the Internet Archive at http://web.archive.org/web/19991128024532/rronline.com/Ratings/Homepage.htm.
Hit ratings, then Asheville, NC (market #179) if you don't believe me).

"*Was WMXF-FM (Hot AC) until November 20, when it began to simulcast WQNS-FM"

That, plus the FCC records are my sources. The call letter change from WMXF to WQNQ took place October 1st, 1999.

I don't see where I was wrong.
