WILD 1027 "Debut"

Just as the fireworks end tonight (July 2) at about 9:55pm in Atlantic City, Atlantic Broadcasting will debut the new local radio station WWAC-FM Wild 102.7, a Top 40/dance station.

We are very excited to debut the market’s first high energy station in the party capital of the Northeast, Atlantic City,” says Atlantic Broadcasting’s John Caracciolo. DJ Vic Latino, also part of the broadcast team says, “There is a huge hole in this market for this music. We have created a radio station that is exciting, fun and local. This is what radio used to be."

Could any of the Local Stations be headed the same route ? What say you Smart Guys ? ;)

Smart guys say the debut of an Atlantic City station by an East Coast company has nothing to do with San Antonio or Austin.

It doesn't but he/she did throw in the last couple of questions.

In any case, I don't believe it will happen in either market(SA or Aus) unless Wild lights up the ratings.

The station seems no more dance friendly than KTFM.  Actually, KTFM may be even more dance friendly than Wild 1027 given the current mixshow lineup.

Edit.. about 6 songs in theres a dance song.

I've been listening online since they launched and this station sounds nothing like KTFM.......

I like KTFM but I personally think Wild 102.7 in Atlantic City sounds better.

Ok... Seriously guys! Reading about format changes in a different market, is REALLY annoying! Next time, if any foreginers decide to post about a format change on this forum, it better be in SA/Austin/Central TX! THANK YOU! Geesus Chryst!

I hope you get a dance station down in Texas. But this is one of the rare times I've seen a format change being discussed on a board 1000+ miles from the station that flipped. But with the crazy e-skip that's been going on the past few weeks, maybe you guys will be able to hear Wild 102.7 for a few minutes.

Not over Jack FM, especially form Atlantic City.

Okay lets forget about a station thousands of miles away and make this into more of a relevant SA topic.

Lets rewind time back to when SA had Wild 102.7

The thing I really liked about that station was that we mixed ALL our songs. There was a DJ mixing 24/7

It was safe to say there was a fat chance it would have worked since KBBT destroyed the CBS version of KTFM back in the early 00's

But lets say a station like that came back into the market with 24/7 mixing as they went after the Beat. How would it do? KBBT has a good mixing squad so they could easily counter and do the same with 24 hour mixing.

Does it make a difference?

Sure would be interesting battle. I'd much rather hear songs mixed than end cold.

It seems more likely that a station would start with a daily mix block and see what the PPMs show. If it has an audience they can expand the block. The bigger question is whether the format is advertiser friendly. Ratings won't save the format if they can't sell it.

Party 105.3 is their sister and has been on the air several years. So this format can work when you have someone devoted to the format and that believes in it.

KRBE Houston did that in 1991, and they blew rival KKBQ out of the water during that time they where known as Club 104 KRBE.

According to Wiki it was in 1991 that KRBE realized their presentation was "showing signs of wear" and they went to "Hits Without the Hype."

But the songs were all mixed up taking out extra adlibs, the songs were mixed together with the dj annoucing Club 104 KRBE. I have a 1 min scoped aircheck of this around here somewhere. I'll try to find it, I know it is on one of my many Maxell Heat Resistant XLII-S tapes, it was recorded on Memorial Day weekend of 1991.

Actually there is a local connection to this posting. Rudy Ramos, who programmed KTFM (and a number of other Austin and SA stations) for Border Media is now working for Vic Latino, and is likely the PD of Atlantic City. In fact, sadra...are you Rudy?
