WILD 1090, WMKI aka 1260 off air

WILD 1090 was totally off air earlier today

As of 8:30pm here in N Reading 1260 is off
but I'm getting a Canadian country station
...from Frederickton..,"KHJ" nickname

Should say WMKI aka WBIX

I wish WILD would get rid of China Radio International and go back to an urban format! I could take Tom Joyner in the morning, but the rest of the day should be locally programmed. And they should try to get on one or two FM translators, so that they can run 24/7.

FM translators - unlikely to happen. The local FM dial is just too crowded. Throw in signals from (relatively) nearby markets
like Worcester, Providence, Manchester that overlap parts of the Boston metro, and it REALLY is not gonna happen.

When WILD was for sale a few years back, no local ownership stepped up to the plate to buy it. Its former format was not
profitable. If you really think there is money to be made doing this format, then start saving your pennies now, and when a station comes
up for sale, buy it, and have at it. Best of luck to you!

WILD back on and at full volume! China Radio

WILD audio was nearly inaudible today. The volume has been intermittently up-and-down and off-and-on ever since the programming went to CRI a few years ago. Don't think that when you may hear it at full volume occasionally that the problem has been fixed.

My guess suspicion is that they may have downlink equipment for certain stereo feeds wired to their board out of phase so that they cancel out when they air in mono, and they may be monitoring their program channel in stereo in the studios (if they monitor at all), unaware that the audio is canceling out on certain programs when mixed to mono on the air.

Indeed volume was about 15-20% today and sound
quality was like a cheap phone held up to a cheap
TV speaker.I remember when they first went on
with CRI programming...two hosts in studio interviewing
someone on the phone. The person on phone was
loud;in studio hosts almost inaudible.

Just before 9 pm here in Beverly I was getting it--pop songs, a promo for a talent competition ("Radio Disney, your music your way...sizzling summer") and an ID of
"WMKI and WMKI HD1 Boston". My guess is that Salem is running it but running Radio Disney to test equipment before format launch. Not sure.

Just noticed that 1260 is silent again. Getting two conflicting stations at 1270 one English, one Foreign.

Indeed...someone said on radioinsight that Salem takes over on the 8th, and @bostonradio said new ratings book begins on the 10th

1270s:
WSPR Springfield, Spanish "Power"
WTSN Dover NH, English talk

Yup, I noted them off this morning at 2:40am (I *think* they were still on at 11pm).

On 1260 after sunset, I'm picking up CKHJ in Frederickton New Brunswick playing Country also WKSO "The Score" in Syracuse NY.

1260 WBIX seems like it's off the air again. When it was on, the volume was inconsistent.

It's on the air now, but with extremely low volume/modulation. Can barely make out the speech.

The carrier itself is also a lot weaker than when it was WMKI (and previous stations). The country station from New Brunswick is competing, sometimes even beating out WBIX, and I'm in Somerville just eight miles from the Quincy transmitter. It used to be a solid signal here.

Someone is now obviously trying to adjust things. The signal suddenly got a little stronger, the volume went up and down a few times, and now it's loud and distorted.

Now, it just changed abruptly from the talk program in mid-stream to spots and a news update, and those elements a bit softer and not distorted. Now, the talk program is back on, not quite as loud as before but still a bit distorted, poor audio quality.

This station needs work!
