Wild 92.5 & 105.7 San Antonio's Party Station

Wild fixed their audio and is now broadcasting in stereo. Still lots of repetition though.

And they' really hate The Beat and Xavier's World - they've got liners calling out 98.5 on their commercials and Xavier's World on their "doing the same crap over and over" and their "fake Carmen Calls".

Xavier and The Beat are pretty much ignoring everything over there - just blocking people who retweet Wild, including me. Oh well.

Gotta love Wild for slamming on The Beat!!! KTFM is also doing the samething with Kidd Kraddick @ Mix 96.1.

Btw KevenGC, Wild going 100% Hip Hop would fail. K104 is Dallas is all Hip Hop and has been struggling over the last several months. Personally, I like the mix of Hip Hop & Dance on one station.

Austin's 102.3 The Beat also plays Dance tracks.

The beat in Austin is hardly a hip hop station to me.

I guess WOAI had no impact on being on FM?

The Beat in Austin is classified as Hip Hop & Hit Music. Wild 92.5/105.7 doesn't tag itself as a "Hip Hop" station.

As for WOAI on FM- It never registered in the PPM's. Surprised? But my guess is that CC never had long term plans for WOAI to be on FM.

Maybe things would have turned out differently if WOAI actually told people about their FM station. I haven't heard them mention 105.7 once except for their ID(just the call letters with no frequency).

I don't believe that would have made much difference since 106.7 is a 100,000 watts signal that had a similar format and produce little to no ratings. But who knows, right?

I am not a huge fan of Hip Hop but I must say, that I like the variety of songs Wild currently has on rotation. Some songs I haven't heard in ages or never aired in S.A.

Btw, props to Wild for playing the new one from Flo Rida- I Cry. I prefer the Bingo Player version but this one is just as good. ;D

Wild 92.5/105.7 would be foolish to go all Hip Hop when that particular genre has been on the decline for the last several years. In addition, Wild is hinder by it's signal. You're correct that the demos of Dallas and San Antonio are considerably different. However, I don't agree that San Antonio doesn't have the numbers to support a hip-hop format. As much as I can't stand the format myself, hip-hop typically cumes an audience that's at least 40% white. In cities with a large Hispanic population, it's not unheard of for a hip-hop station to have an audience that's roughly 60% white. Now, Hispanics are usually classified as white or black depending on their family heritage when those statistics are calculated, but you get the idea.

The big problem with doing hip-hop in San Antonio wouldn't be a lack of audience. It's that hip-hop skews heavily young and heavily male. That audience doesn't attract a large number of advertisers, and the ones it gets usually won't pay a premium to hit that audience. There's a reason stations like KKDA were suffering in the billing departments long before PPM hit. They had to cut their rates substantially to get the advertising dollars flowing in.

I see your point but I also believe The Beat here in SA tried to remain Hip Hop for as long as they did but ended up loosing more of their audience to KTFM and Mix 96.1.

Again, I like what Wild has brought to S.A. I love the mixture of Hip Hop, Dance and Old School tracks they've been playing. The playlist also doens't seem so repetitive like the other 3 stations in town.

I'll have to listen again. When they first started up I was hearing the same songs twice every hour. I guess they've added tons more music.

I was able to pick up 105.7 Wild FM coming in from Austin on Tuesday, as soon as the MegaBus was past the Walzem Road and I-35 exit, heard it clearly into downtown around 3:15 pm or so. Seem to have technical difficulties with at least 10 minutes of dead air on two occasions during that hour.

What would be the point of putting a niche format on a rimshot/translator combo? That seems more like the kind of place to put a flanker, like Wild.

They would have to place the original station on a HD Sub channel to do that. Look for Comedy 92.5/105.7 by the first of the year.

AAA is a niche format, so is Comedy. Austin's 102.7 is a rimshot, so is 93.3. Unless you are implying Comedy 102.7 and 93.3 KGSR are flankers, which both seem to get decent ratings.

Agreed, it would make the target demo listen to KSMG instead. I haven't used my HD radio for San Antonio since it is busying copying KXBT on one of my PC's.

But Austin's KHFI CHR/Top 40 has Modern AC on their HD-2 signal.

and

Houston's CHR/Top 40 KRBE has the True Oldies Channel on HD-2.
