I know what you're thinking, "Who is it this time? Jazzy Jim? Travis? One of the jocks?"
Actually its ALL the jocks!
No, we arent fired.....just a little deflated. By the way, YES I said WE because YES, I am one of the ones that was told "How things are now" in the jock meeting Wednesday (There's an hour of my life I will never get back!)
Anyways, in case you havent been listening in the last few days, it has been mandated now that ALL our talk breaks must be no more than 20 seconds long and Big trouble awaits whichever one of us goes longer... Contests, Liners, Callers, Countdowns, Backsells and Frontsells EVERYTHING within 20 seconds!
Some of you might not think its so bad but I guess its less of WHAT we are doing and more so WHY we are doing it. Its like all the managers are running around with their heads cut off....or at least when their not running into depositions and litigation (sorry, maybe a little too inside).
Here's what I mean:
1. They are freaking out because our numbers and TSL are down in certain areas. Our San Jose numbers are down and they are blaming KDON for "entering into Wild's territory."
(KDON's SJ numbers took a pretty good spike- not that it matters to YOU but it suuuuure does to Michael and Jazzy!)
2. Most of us STILL spend 50% of our show taking calls from angry, EX-listeners who have moved on since Tman moved in. (And the calls are closer to 80-90% DURING Tmans show. (not that he ever knows this as he sits in Seattle.) But this, combined with the hate we feel on the streets makes for a LOT of lost love....and that does NOT bode well for the future.
3. Our music seems to change every week! The party station...nope, now we are the Hyphy station... nope, now we're the White kid college station...NOPE, NOW we are the Pop station....
I dont know, maybe I just needed to vent in an open and annomious forum since it doesnt seem to make me feel any better or hopeful when the jocks get together and talk about how we are going to "bring wild back" and what is the best way to spin this...
Sometimes it feels like I am Rosanne Barr singing the Star Spangled Banner... my manager is waving at me from the dugout telling me how great things are going but its hard to concentrate on him while the whole stadium is boo'ing me, and I can hear why!
PS... I hope this wasnt longer than 20 seconds!
