WiLD 96 - Midland/Odessa???

Just heard they flipped to Country???

Wasn't this one of the highest rated stations in the market?

Aren't there already 3 or 4 other Country stations there?

Any insight?

Any insight? Yeah... This sucks!! Country of all things.

I seem to remember it doing pretty well last time I saw the Midland/Odessa ratings. However, I also seem to remember Midland/Odessa being embargoed for quite some time. Ratings or not, the biggest problem with hip hop, assuming Wild was still hip hop, is that it can be next-to-impossible to sell. I worked at a station that did everything it could to avoid being called urban for that very reason. Even trying to tell everyone we were CHR, we couldn't sell out at $35.00 a pop and an 11 share!

I think that was the same problem that the former Kiss 104.3 in Lubbock had, even though they were in third place when they flipped.

Just read that Wild had a nomination for a 2008 R&R Industry Achievement Award for Rhythmic Station of the Year. This was a shock to everyone. Including the employees.

And yet, Lubbock has 2...

Listen to Jack FM Garrett, and in case you don't know who this is, I'm Bucwhyl, a/k/a JamzUSA cuz. You sent me the launch of Hot 97.3. Remember me now?.....

Well, I woudln't say tough. More like advertisers aren't jumping in.

In Lubbock's case, I say go figure. Maybe local business want to target students.

The market where I worked that had the urban station that didn't want to be called urban was a college town. I've noticed the Lubbock stations doing rhythmic don't seem to be doing all that well ratings-wise. Add them up, and they'd be tied for second, but that doesn't mean much. I suspect both of them have probably cut costs to the point they can do it profitably. Even not being able to sell out our station, we still ran profitably because it was a lean operation. We had four stations in that building, and there weren't usually more than two members of the airstaff in the building at any one time.
