WILD AM

>>WILD AM goes dark tomorrow

Huh? Haven't heard about this--for now they're doing black talk network and gospel...I'd heard they were
for sale

Do you have a source for this info--do you work there, or got info via a website? I turned up nothing at Globe, Herald, and some radio sites...just curious about why they'd be going off if indeed they are. Usually if I put a piece of info on here, I mention the source.

At this point, I dont care what happen to this station . Its a shame what "Uncle Radio One" did to this Once Great Legend , Urban Daytimer Station .Here are Some of the WILD past personalities , Pebbles ( Now on Mornings at WJMN ) , Sunny Joe White ( RIP ), Elroy R.C. Smith ( Now PD at Chicago Top station WGCI ) ,Stephen Hill ( now at BET ) , Cherry Martinez ( Now on Power 105 NYC ) , Olivia Fox ( Former Russ Parr sidekick ,Was doing a morning show in Tampa FL ) , Candi Eastman ( was or maybe still on Majic 102 Houston ). If this is true, that WILD will go dark , look like Boston will get 24 hours of Baltimore ,News and Talk . YUCK !

Insider info says this: Salem's group of stations (WEZE, WROL, and WTTT) are in the process of moving into the new studios built for WILD-F and WILD-A. They are currently in some old digs across the street. Radio One management is (or will be) in town to meet what's left of the staff. Some say it will be to talk about moving back to the old studios while others say that darkness falls come 3/1. Radio One wants to unload the station, maybe straight to Salem, but have no interest in running it anymore.

Thanks for info...
Maybe they'd move the conservative talk there...unless someone can buy them and put prog talk on 1090
(days only of course...)
Speaking of daytimers, in the late afternoon I've been noticing a daytimer right next to 1090: turned out to
be WHLI 1100 out of Hampstead, LI, NY (standards)...radio-locator says their signal goes straight south but I
can pick it up here in Beverly...then after awhile it becomes the Big One, WTAM in Cleveland.

Getting back to 1090, I think Eli mentioned that people were wondering why 1090 had two formats:
soul days, and "white talk shows" at night...not realizing they were picking up WBAL!

In some markets, Salem runs an alternate feed of their conservative talk format. One place where this happens is Minneapolis, where WWTC-1280 runs the main conservative news/talk format (with some non-Salem hosts), while KYCR-1570 clears all of the Salem-originated talk.

It could be an opportunity to throw a CCM format back on the air... especially when you see what K-Love did recently in Albany, the rest of New England can't be too far behind.

From someone (me) who works there: There is no word yet officially what will be happnning with WILD 1090. there are rumors of a sale and a move across the street and shutting it off.

It's Official! WILD 1090 is moving it's facility to a production room in Salem's building. It's NOT going dark!

Is it still going to remain under Radio One ownership, or is Salem going to buy it?

Good question; R1 could be renting the space but keeping ownership, or maybe Salem's buying it, but at least it's not going off air. (If Salem were to buy it I wonder if they'd keep the current format?)

By the way I remember working as an intern for WFNX in late 1983. Previously of course you had WLYN AM &
FM under same ownership (remember when it was alternative or just plain rock as "Y-102"?)...then when
Puritan kept the AM and sold the FM to Mindich, you had WFNX with several rooms at 25 Exchange but you could go into the AM which had its own operation (a few rooms; I used to use the soda machine!),
doing foreign language mostly

As part of the deal for the move, Salem is giving space for a studio in a production room across the street. Radio One still owns WILD. Salem doesn't want to acquire WILD.

Glad to hear that Salem does not want to buy WILD 1090. The last thing that we need is yet another religious station, or another outlet for Salem's spooky "religo-conservative-talk" programming.

Are there not any African-Americans (or ANYBODY) with some coin who are willing to step up to save the only black station (and a hertiage one, too) in Boston? The cost of the license can't be that out of reach. I won't comment on the irony of the possibility that WILD--after 50 years of serving the black community--might be changing format (via a sale) at the hands of black-owned Radio One.
