I have a strong hunch that the majority of this forum's readers are too young, but does anybody remember WILD circa 1965, when the two mainstays on 1090 AM were Jimmy "Early" Byrd and Buddy Lowe?
I found out recently that Walter "Buddy" Lowe died in California a little over a year ago, where he had been living for many years. Some of us might remember his booming baritone voice introducing the latest James Brown or Wilson Pickett hit, or when he would sing along with the beginning of the old Grossman's jingle that opened their spot..."Here comes Grossman's, here comes Grossman's, here comes Grossman's with values for you"
Curiously enough, the obituary doesn't list Boston as among the many markets he worked in. I believe he took the place of "Wild Man Steve" Gallon, who became a stand-up comic, but has also since passed away. I believe Jimmy Byrd is still with us. (I'm not him, despite the screen name I use!)
