WILD Going TALK

Reported in today's Boston Globe that WILD will become part of an expanding Black Talk Radio syndicator which will include The REVerand Al Sharpton as one of the talk hosts. Not clear in the article if the entire format will be talk or only part.

Should be interesting to hear Al Sharpton on a regular basis.

Also, WILD has moved to new studios at Marina Bay in Quincy. That is where the right wing religious station WEZE is located owned by Salem Broadcasting.
Great view from their studios (WEZE)- too bad they are just broadcasting static...

I'm not sure "interesting" is the correct word here. If Rush and Greaseman are considered racists, why isnt' this guy?

What happened to the gospel format?

article link, etc.

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/li..._air_new_african_american_talk_radio_network/

The new black talk network will start the first of the new year. Will air on as many as 10 of Radio One's stations and will be offered to others. Programming
10 am - 7 pm, Mon-Fri. WILD will fill up other programs, like on weekends
(and of course as a daytimer, it will go off air at local sunset which will be considerably before 7 pm by January)

Will they carry any black conservative voices? Larry Elder? Maybe Kevin Martin from Project 21 (calls in to Sean
Hannity on occasion)...?

In that light, the network is looking almost like a racist Air America. No doubt the views are going to be liberal, and the cornerstone of which is Al Sharpton, who is likely to be like an Al Franken in the talk show arena. Sharpton does have talk experience, though, he has a show on WLIB 1190 (not AIr America) on weekend mornings.

> What happened to the gospel format?

That could possibly be the shortest lived format on the Boston airwaves.

I'd actually suggested "black talk" as a simulcast of WOL-AM 1450 in Washington a few weeks or months ago before the Gospel format change. I can see a format like this working in Washington, but in Boston? Like Bob's Discount Furniiture, "I doubt it".

Unless they run it (gospel) on weekends. Remember before the format change that
WILD ran gospel on Sundays only. They could do talk Mon-Fri and gospel
on weekends.

Where is the Urban ILD going ? To FM? What station, please.

Al Sharpton is appearing on lots of TV - a guest appearance
in LAW & ORDER, Boston Legal - he's a fun dude, even if he
messed up on Tawana whats-her-name

Sharpton is Rainbow Coalition - Rush is not. He is a character and will be a pleasure to listen to over Jerry Springer and Mike Savage.

Where is Joan Rivers? She was on WNSH. Is she in this market anymore?

Well 97.7 is doing frequent-change format from Urban AC to Rap to
ballads, depending on when you tune in. What happened to the
"old school" R&B 1090 was running? Prob. gone unless they mix in
some with the urban AC

What's the joke Rush makes up about Jesse--the Monochrome Coalition :)

Tawana Brawley

I'll agree :)

Well the old WMRE simulcast her Fox talk show. I don't know of any
radio-only show, and if WNSH carried it.

Joan Rivers on NSH

I believe Keating Wilcox had Joan Rivers syndicated at night when he had
his string of AM 1570s - but since I don't know how many stations he has
in his chain now (or is it only WNSH at this point in time?) I'm not sure
if he is still carrying Ms. Rivers

Oh OK--well he used to own WPEP 1570 in Taunton and a few other small
stations--forget which. just owns WNSH now.
WMRE had simulcast audio portion of Joan's Fox show around late 86/early 87.
Ch 25 was then owned by Pat Robertson and refused to run her ("oh grow up!",
as she'd say). WMRE went off air in early 1987 (I went to _their_ elimation
party at the old Breakfast Club on Boylston St.)

They made that move over a year ago. That was the end of their AM Stereo, though they didn't shut the stereo light pilot off until last week.

And Sharpton isn't??? Or is hating whites OK?

Re: Joan Rivers on NSH

Joan Rivers had a show on the WOR Radio Network up until a few years ago. She was ultimatly fired for using the "F" word one too many times. She frequently appears on the QVC Shopping Network hawking Beauty Products and Jewelery. She's also on QVC United Kingdom and QVC Germany. She just did a show on the BBC where she went off on a guy who accused her of beign a racitst. And ther was also that 2 day fill-in gig she had at WPRO in Providence a couple years ago while El Rushbo was in Rehab. Unfortuantly for Joan Premire Radio (syndicators of Rush's EIB Netork) cried like a little Bitch and told WPRO they had to carry El Rushbo's Replacement.

Bobby while I generally think Sharpton is a bit of a clown I dont think he hates whites at all. Just as I doubt that Rush or Greaseman hates blacks either per se but you cant deny that either of the latter are not particularly friendly toward the black community especially greaseman given his history of comments. This is a foolish thing for you to even try to argue my man.

Only each of these guys knows inside whether they hate races other than their own. I think you'll agree that Sharpton has made many comments that would have been considered racist if he were a white talking about blacks. Yet there seems to be a double standard. This was my only point.

Actually, the Kid Star network was shorter on 1150, not lasting more than a month.

KCFE 990, a professionally-planned, women's talk format in Dallas/Ft. Worth, was on the air for a total of 3 days. Apparently poor financial planning was the result of the station's demise.

But Kidstar would likely be the Boston record. Wasn't the CCM-formatted "Praise 1260" WPZE, very short lived as well?
