WILD HASN'T BEEN ON THE AIR!

For the last three or four months that Salem ran extreme-right-wing talk on 1150 AM, they ran with the daytime pattern all the time. After the switch to Spanish-language "religion", they adhered to FCC rules apparently all the time. You could almost set your watch by their pattern changes (if anyone even wears watches any more; most people nowadays get their time from cell phones.)

At one point a certain competitor was NOT powering down at night, as required. They were then claiming they had much better coverage than we did. NOT!

But if I'm thinking of the correct competitor, one of their stations probably does have better night coverage than one of your stations. Their station is a Class C AM that runs several hundred watts at night; yours is a Class D that runs less than 100W at night. Now, their Class C is on a noisy graveyard channel and your Class D is on a regional channel, but I suspect that the two stations have pretty comparable NIFs. If so, the station that runs the higher power probably has somewhat better night coverage.

Bob,

Their license is up for renewal in 2014. Sounds like a reason to deny a license renewal to me. Anyway last summer I contacted Rene Tetero at 990 in Philly (telling him that maybe another station on 990 could complain about WXCT) when WXCT wasn't powering down and a couple days after I contacted him WXCT started powering down again. Maybe I should send another email to him and he can go to the FCC.

If the FCC denies their renewal (they won't) then what? I doubt if people will be lining up to put a new AM station on the air or if the FCC would even allow it.
