WILD one stereo channel again

Right now, I'm hearing "Uptight" by Stevie Wonder with no drums or bass.

WILD has been airing a mono mix on their AM stereo carrier for over a year now, but at least since last spring both channels of the stereo mix were combined to mono.

Sounds like they dropped a channel of the feed again. Only one channel of the music is coming through their mono mix on their AM stereo carrier now.

For about 1.5-2 weeks, up until this past Friday or Saturday, they were operating at full power well after sunset (increasing a minute or two each day as the sunset gets earlier), up to a half hour last week. And altogether, they were operating up to 45 minutes after sunset. They seem to have reset their timer as of either Friday or Saturday and now they're signing off about five minutes after sunset, and operating at reduced power from about 25 minutes before sunset.

Are you sure you heard it on WILD?? I've never heard them play that. That's not in their format.

There is a different mix of that song around...it may have been an earlier release. I believe DB released an album on Mercury containing that song before signing with RCA.

As Eli noted, it's unlikely that WILD would have played it though...the song isn't exactly what I'd call R&B gold.

Speaking of WILD, knowing that they were very close to the eventual takedown of the transmitter building and tower left standing on Corporation Way in Medford back in June, I went over to the site and took at least a dozen pictures of the building and tower. I haven't been over there since. Has the building and tower come down now that they are using nearby WXKS's site?

Have they actually made the move yet?

I was told last spring that when they do, it will be with a new transmitter and IBOC, and no more analog AM Stereo carrier. The analog AM Stereo light is still on (except for during that low-power half-hour between sunset and signoff).

Re: Related Subject To This Thread On WILD (More technical issues)

The last few days, the PM drive traffic reports have been barely audible on the air. By barely audible, I mean you can't hear what the traffic reporter is even saying. But Rick Anderson introduces him loud and clear and then you can hear a slight rumble in the background that is the traffic reporter talking. Then Rick comes back at the end and says thank you.

It's too bad such a good radio station is plagued with technical problems.

Also, related to Eli's original post, I had taped an aircheck of WILD this past Saturday afternoon. Upon going back and reviewing it yesterday, I found a similar thing occurred with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"...half the song was missing! Aside from the vocals, there was little else to it.

Putting WILD on 97.7 would be such a better use of that signal.

Maybe they have the traffic reporter feed potted up on the stereo channel which is the one not being sent to the transmitter.

The Marvin Gaye version, or the Gladys Knight version?

Or the Smokey Robinson version? (Too obscure, though he wrote it).

(I know it wouldn't have been the CCR version!)

That's exactly what I figured based on your post. What is the best way to go about contacting them and notifying them of this? I can't believe it can go on unnoticed for days. Surely, if they were aware of it, they'd be attempting to fix it, I would think.

The Marvin Gaye version. Unfortunately, I'm somewhat ignorant when it comes to musical terms and such. But let it suffice to say that it sounded throughout most of the song like 3/4 of the instrumental was missing. Thus the vocals sounded somewhat overpowering.

Once I tried calling their office number and was put through to their General Manager. He acted "concerned", and said he would "contact an engineer" about my complaint. However, it was months before it was (temporarily) fixed (at least the mono feed was both channels going to both channels for a while).

I don't think it had anything to do with my call. They had a problem last spring when the entire audio was cutting in and out. When the engineer came up to fix that, he did something that got both channels into the mono mix, at least until recently.
