WILD RATINGS

Wild has never had bad ratings. Orlando is a great programmer and his show is solid. They just have the misfortune of being up against FLZ and all that heritage. I noticed they are up a bit 12+ but I know that they are getting beat across the board 18-34 by FLZ and even BTP in some areas.

Solid station. Just real tough to stick with FLZ since CC sighed on The Beat.

I think that's a non-issue here. To a 25 year old, WLLD debuted when they were 16. So to them Wild 98.7 is their heritage station.

Heritage doesn't mean much to a CHR station because of the demos.

I dont know if that is all the way true. If their big brothers and sisters listened to it and their aunts and uncles listened to it and their cousins listened to is. It was cool then and it is cool now.

Heritage has to account for something. Having been there and seen it I can honestly say it counts in this instance. It may not in every situation. WAPE in Jacksonville enjoys a lot of the same heritage. Not an amazing station but has been there forever and wins against decent competition.

Wild is good at what they do. There are a lot of amazing people that work in that building. Nothing but respect for them. But to battle a Heritage like FLZ is tough. They did it very well after they signed on even beating FLZ quite a few times 12+. But CC sighed on BTP and boxed in Wild and it has been the FLZ show in town for a while...as far as the numbers anyway.

Keep in mind that this takes nothing away from Wild. Great station, great people, very tough fight. It is going to be like this for a while I think.

I agree that if it wasn't for The Beat, Wild would have a much stronger showing overall... and especially in older demos. Wild lost the older demo when The Beat signed on. That's the bottom line. It's not that FLZ has really increased it's audience, it's just been a shift in where some of the audience has moved over the last few years. I'm in my mid 30's and was here during the Power Pig days. Believe me, I'll tell you right now that "heritage" or not, the FLZ of today is not MY 93.3. Same goes for 98Rock. These stations are a shell of what they once were. Now a station like WQYK.... that's "heritage". Well respected in the business nationally and very if any change in positioning or name in the last 25 years. You can't say the same thing about WFLZ.... at least not anymore.

And if you go back a few years, WQYK is just as good if not a better radio station now than it was a few years ago. The same certainly can not be said of 98Rock and probably not FLZ either.

As far as WLLD is concerned, remember they will always have to live with a signal that is not even close to that incredible 93.3 coverage. The Beat also has a better signal. WLLD will always have to fight this, but I agree they do a great job.

Kapugi actually posted on this very board once that CC's research showed that a straight-up Urban would hurt Wild more than in would hurt FLZ (thus the net effect being it would help FLZ). That's why the Beat replaced Star (although they should have killed Mix and just moved Star as it was 100.7, but that's another story in itself...)
