Wild things happening?

Does WWVA have a mix at 12pm now, or did they just happen to coincidentally play "Save the world" by Swedish House Mafia amongst a bunch of dance material between 12 and 12:40pm? ...

I'm almost convinced that they mixed at 12pm, due to the fact that "Super Bass" also came on twice during the 12 o clock hour, but I can't actually tell for sure without solid proof.

I must say WWVA has really turned into something great.

**Personal Opinion Here**

When Groove first switched to Wild, I could not stand the station. They went from a top 40 format to nearly 80% hip-hop and rap which personally, is not my favorite.

Over the past 3 months, I have noticed WILD shift away some from the constant hip-hop and rap to more of a Top 40 sound similar to what they were before when they were Groove. Now that this shift has taken place, they want to continue to stand out from Q100 so many of the top 40 hits you hear on the station are in a remix form or club form. I'm not sure if they are still doing it but I noticed a similar remix show around 7 every evening.

I agree though, it's definitely a good move. Now if they could just do something with the signal.

Speaking of remixes and stuff, I think 99x could really push the boundaries a little and do something similar (rock format of course) on Saturday nights or something. Remixes of Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Gravity Kills, and yes, what about some Lords of Acid.

Wait... 99X pushing the limit??? NEVER! That's another story though.

Cool, they are trying to become the next WILD in San Fran. I like that.. Signal wise for 105.7 and 96.7 = DUMP. Fix the signal and voice promos/tracking and then i'll applaud...but adding a mix show on noons is nothing...

As far as 99x getting wild and pushing the boundaries, maybe a good alternative/rock mix show would be good idea on weekend nights, consisting of rock, alternative electronica, and other "rock associated material" if you know what I mean. I don't know how to explain it, but I've heard some rock/alternative stations do this. I guess "remixes of Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Gravity Kills, and yes, what about some Lords of Acid" is a good enough example. Maybe an example of rock influenced electronica would be some Daft Punk, or maybe even some... well, "Save the world" by Swedish House Mafia, etc. They could also use the Skratch N Sniff syndication (if they're still in business) where they do a dual dj show of rock and hip hop mixes and mash ups.

Actually, it is something for mixshow fanatics, dance fans, or people who want a little something extra. Maybe it's not as beneficial as being on a sufficiently fully powered signal, but it's better than just the same ol' same ol' regular playlist music all day long. It would be great if they had morning mixes as well. Not sure if that will happen with a syndicated morning show, but I've heard stations with syndicated morning shows still conveniently slip in locally scheduled studio mix shows as well.

WiLD San Fransisco is nice, but I believe that WWVA has been programmed for the Atlanta market, due to the fact that they give a lot of attention to the bass remixes of some hits (in addition to the club remixes they use as well), and Atlanta is known as the former booty bass capital of the world... ... (ok, SECOND bass music capital of the world (I do not want to upset the Miami Bass folks again - yes, Miami was the true pioneer of bass!)). I think I actually like WiLD Atlanta better than the San Francisco WiLD when it comes to regular playlist, although the San Fransisco station "pushes the boundaries" a bit more often with more mix shows.

Feel free to discuss / present the story. As long as it's within the lines of, or could be considered as "Wild things happening", it will fit within the topic of this thread!

As far as I know, WILD only mixes at 8:30pm for the "Mami Mix" with Mami Chula. They did have a the "Remix at Six" but they ditched it months ago.

Well, no mix on WiLD right now! I'm not exactly sure what happened yesterday at noon, but.. oh well.
Surely a fascinating arrangement of music (for me).

The bass remix of "motivation" by Kelly Rowland is on in regular rotation, NOW.

_____________________________ EDIT AT 12:14 pm _____________________________

NEVER MIND! The mix is coming up in less than 5 minutes!

I sure am going to have a field day when I return/move to Atlanta. Not sure what's taking this entire "move situation" so long to happen...

Whats the name of the mix? Is it like Q100's Cardio Radio Mix they did at noon years ago? V103 does the Old Scool Lunch mix at noon and HOT 107.9 canceled there 20Minute Workout at noon.

Like I said before, the only way they could upgrade their signal is to swap formats with The Bull or Project, which at this time might not be the best idea...

Scratch and Sniff is being done on 96.1 which fits. I don't think the 99x listeners would like the rap/rock style of mixes. In my opinion it actually sucks!

But yes, industrial/electronic stuff... I know NIN has some remixes and so does Korn. 99x should hit that hard on Saturday nights just like they hit the more indie stuff on Sunday mornings.

I wasn't sure if it was already on in Atl yet or not, but I thought Sratch N Sniff would be appropriate in Atl since rock and hip hop are big there. I do agree that the industrial/electronic rock influenced sound would be better though.

I believe it's called the 12:20 WiLD Mix. It's similar to Cardio Radio, but only difference is unlike Cardio Radio, the songs are actually mixed, and they play NEW music (in addition to taking you back in the day). You (will) know everything that's going on since the mix sounds live and has a live on-air host who explains everything, does a good job with making it sound interactive, and makes it feel as if he was dj'ing with his listeners sitting in the same room with him.

I forgot what new song was featured today, but the old school 2 decade flashback song was "you spin me round (like a record)" by Dead or Alive. I almost thought that was a stretch and people would start changing the station, until I thought about it and figured that if V103 could do THIS:

V103
1. The Police – Every Breath You Take
2. Janet Jackson – Escapade
3. Britney Spears – Gimme More
4. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam – I Wonder If I Take You Home
5. Mariah Carey – Emotions
6. Regina – Baby Love
7. Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up
8. Justin Timberlake feat. The Clipse – Like I Love You
9. Human League – Don’t You Want Me
10. Robin Thicke – Wanna Love U Girl
11. Sheila E. – Love Bizarre
12. The Jackson 5 – The Love You Save
13. Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough
14. Rufus & Chaka Khan – Do You Love What You Feel
15. Ying Yang Twins feat. Pitbull – Shake
16. SOS Band – Take Your Time (Do It Right)
17. Mavado – Gangsta For Life
18. Paula Abdul – The Way That You Love Me
19. Trey Songz – Love Faces
20. New Kids On The Block – Cover Girl
21. Frankie Valli – Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
22. The Tokens – The Lion Sleeps Tonight
23. Final Edition – I Can Do It (Anyway You Want)
24. Jeremih – Birthday Sex
25. Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
26. Chris Brown -Yeah 3x
27. Vanity 6 – Nasty Girl
28. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World)
29. ABC – The Look Of Love
30. Katy Perry – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
31. Jermaine Stewart – We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off

then one Dead or Alive hit shouldn't be that harmful to a WWVA midday mixshow. I'm guessing that since they played "808" by Blaque yesterday, then that must've been the old school feature of yesterday's mix ("808 REMIX" by Blacque was a popular booty bass style hit). The 12:20 WiLD Mix is by Dj Andre Perry.

The 8:20 Commercial Free Hour Mix with Mami Chula is on NOW, and I'm sure some house, electro-house, electro-hip hop, pop, dirty south hip hop, and modern booty bass is being played now.

Years ago, 99x did have a Saturday night mix programs hosted by Yvonne Monet called The beat Factory and X-Cellerator. Pretty much dance remixed alternative rock and industrial rock. You'd hear NIN, KMFDM, Lords of Acid, T99, etc. It worked for a while and it was exactly like what BBC Radio1 does in their dance music shows...beat mixed...sometimes live at a club...a little recap (over the currently played track) of what was played in the past 20 minutes...the only difference was 99x had to break for commercials. Not sure it would work...then again, 99x has been promoting more electronic music shows lately....I don't know if DeadMau5 or that recent electro-music fest at Lakewood was promoted on any other stations., though.

I think WiLD is/was promoting electronic music (festivities) as well. At least certain aspects of their website have been indicating that they are...

It would be great if 99x or someone brings back the alternative dance mixes on Saturday nights. Not sure if that would be too wild and outrageous for an alternative station at this point in time, though.

So, I was wondering what the new song of the clubs would be today on WWVA. I was shocked to hear "Good life" by One Republic ft B.O.B.!

Is this song still blowing up or what? And why have most of the stations I listen to stopped or reduce its plays? At least somebody is finally playing the B.O.B. version! I'm not exactly sure if any other station is playing that version in Atlanta.

SIGNAL is my primary concern. SIGNAL. If you want Atlanta to go WILD, they need the who city to hear it. Not just parts of it.

Whoohoo! KWSS 106.7 FM BABY! Alternative Electronica, House Music Mixes, BBC News, Great shows and personalities ALL day AND night, and the best national, local, and international Alternative music! EXACTLY how Independent Alternative Radio should be done!

Not to mention, also the addition of Ghetto House Radio on KZZP as of Jan. 1 (Which is ClearChannel owned chr just like WWVA, by the way........)

Lots of wild things happening in my radio world right now! Man, things just seem to be getting better and better in 2012 (for me)!

*I post this with hopes that someone in the ATL market may consider stealing at least some of these ideas and implement them in the ATL market.... School Stations? Rock Stations? ...Anyone?

I could not agree with you more. I don't understand why CC refuses to move WILD to 96.1??? WILD is sounding pretty good these days by the way... I like their new sweepers, playlist isn't bad, definitely has more "energy" (like a CHR/rhythmic CHR should) than Q100.

Energy? I don't see or hear it. Atlanta has way too many nightclubs and a huge party scene for the "Party Station" not to be in the streets. The Urban AC (MAJIC) is live brodacasting in the clubs 3 nights compared to Wild's 1 night if that.
