WiLD Vs. 99.7 NOW

I've always been a fan of CHR and listen to stations around the country. Lately, I've heard a lot of WiLD 94.9 and 99.7 NOW.

Both sound really good, but I prefer 99.7 NOW slightly. Fernando and St. John are among the best CHR jocks in the country IMHO. Their delivery befits how CHR is supposed to sound. The quality of CHR jocks has declined in major markets during recent years. That said, Gaby Diaz is very good. Both morning shows sound equally compelling to me.

The ratings of the 2 stations were neck and neck until November, when 99.7 lost share, and WiLD has had a significant advantage since then. Just wondering if anyone has a theory about why this is the case.

At least we have 2 CHR's serving the bay area. There was a time in the bay area that we didn't have a CHR format. If you lived in the bay area between 1991-1997, and 2002-2008. You were hungry for the CHR format in the bay area.

I remember listening to St. John on 94.9 during my teenage pop radio phase (the mid 2000s), and I did not know he's now at 99.7.

Glancing at 99.7's playlist vs. 94.9's playlist shows that 99.7 is more of a general top-40 hits station while 94.9 emphasizes rap, R&B, and uptempo/dance more - there's a reason 94.9 was "The Bay Area's Party Station" when I used to listen in the mid-2000s. Plus, because 99.7 is owned by Bonneville (another development I missed - I remember 99.7 used to be owned by CBS/Entercom for a long time dating back to the KFRC days) - and Bonneville is an LDS Church owned company - it's probably an upper management decision by Bonneville to avoid playing too much rap/party music on the CHR stations.

E-dawg is right. I remember back in 2004 surfing Windows Media Player for online radio stations when my family first switched from dial-up to high speed internet. I discovered 102.7 KIIS out of LA and was shocked to find a station that fused EVERY popular genre (rap, R&B, rock), asking myself "why can't the Bay Area have this kind of station?" But I was in junior high back then - and by the time 99.7 went top 40 I had basically quit mainstream music.
