WILD WASN'T ON THE AIR THIS MORNING!

WILD broadcasts at 4800 watts during the mid-day, then 1900 watts during "critical hours", then a very low power for just a half-hour after sunset, probably under 100 watts, which I think is called a "Post-Sunset Authority". Those are not listed in the FCC database as far as I can tell. The programming during that time is automated Classic Soul/R&B.

At the end of the low-power half-hour after sunset, the transmitter simply drops off the air on a timer, in the middle of a song being played on the automation. I've even heard it go off the air in the middle of a commercial! There is no signoff message or even a station ID played. The transmitter simply drops off the air at that time during automated programming. I had thought that broadcasting at least a legal ID was required when shutting off the transmitter, unless that has been deregulated.

WINS and WEPN are directional 50 kW stations. Both can be easily received north and north east of NYC, not so well in New Jersey.

Not exactly. Yes, both are 50 kW-U and both have to contend with co-channel 50-kW stations in Toronto. But WINS has to protect CFRB and hence does not have much of a signal to the northwest at all--especially at night. WINS does have a minor lobe to the south-southwest, however. Meanwhile, WEPN protects the Mexican border, and immediately to its southwest the same radiation minimum protects KYW, a mere 90 or so miles away. So WEPN does not do as well in central Jersey as WINS does. WINS puts a better signal over Long Island than WEPN does, however. I believe WINS's 0.5 mV/m daytime contour reaches the extreme eastern tip of Long Island. WEPN's 0.5 mV/m contour does not do that. Also, whereas CFRB protects WINS somewhat at night, CHUM does not protect WEPN at night (nor does WEPN protect CHUM at night). So WEPN must have a considerably higher NIF than WINS does. At night, CFRB really messes up WINS in NH and VT, but CFRB's interference to WINS in the New York area is not as bad as CHUM's interference to WEPN.

they really need to improve their audio . WILD's current signal combined with narrow radios is exactly how AM got a bad reputation

Guess what? WILD 1090 wasn't on the air this morning. I wonder if Radio One finally pulled the plug! I don't think so, but...

Oh yeah?? Well, I wouldn't give up on WILD so easy!! Cause they now have both Twitter and Facebook.

Don't count them out yet! There's no way 60 years of WILD will shut down because of Touch FM. I don't think so! That's like Obama's the first Black President so we don't need the NAACP after 100 years. LOL!
