WILD

Just wanted to say hello to eveyone. I've been a long time lurker and just recently decided to register to ask and add some opinions. My beef is with this new WILD FM. I thought that there may be a little promise for this station after they did the format switch, but they are worse than ever, in my opinion. I was looking forward to a whole weekend of non-stop mixing of the old school and the new school music that they rep on their station id, but instead the listeners got nothing but the same garbage that they play during the week, with the same old tired djs. Maybe someone has an idea as to what radio-one is trying to do. I understand that hip-hop station ratings have declined across the country, and that r&b has risen, but this station hasn't taken advantage of that change. What is so hard about copying the 98.7 Kiss Fm format, and adding in hip-hop. I know most pros think that the demographic is different, but how different is it when the same songs can be heard across the country. As part of that demographic, I want to hear the same format that is offered in the Tri-state area (NY,CT,NJ). There was a time when 97.7 kept 94.5 on their toes, but now 94.5 doesn't owe the listeners anything. If there is a money issue with radio-one, why not put the money into advertising, hiring and keeping top-notch djs, and creating the buzz as a major station that stays in the top ten. It's unfortunate that I've waited years for Boston to have an urban station, and now it just feels like a half-assed effort on the part of radio-one. I'm just wondering what some of you industry insiders opinions are about this, thanks.
